For those of us who watched these '94 games live and when it felt like all hope was lost on the best chance to break the Curse, Richter delivered, delivered and delivered all the way to the greatest prize in hockey for an organization and fanbase famed and ridiculed for failure. Until someone else in net does the same, Richter is the greatest NYR goaltender of the modern era.

100% this. I love Hank, but Richter in my mind is the greatest NYR goalie ever for what he did for us in 94. And when you factor in the ENORMOUS pressure he was under, it becomes even more amazing. Messier, Graves, Leetch and Richter. The Core 4. God how I miss those days.
I don't remember exactly when this happened, but there was a playoff game in the early 1970's against the Blackhawks. Dennis Hull accidentally skated over Eddie Giacomin's hand and cut his hand so badly that you could actually look inside Giacomin's hand and see the tendons and ligaments. This happened in the second period and Giacomin refused to come out of the game. The Rangers were losing 1-0 or 2-1 and in the locker room after the second period decided among themselves that they had to go out and win the game for Giacomin. They scored 2 goals in the third period and won the game. My details are fuzzy but I remember hearing the story. I also barely remember watching the game. I remember Hull skating on Giacomin's hand but not much else.
