Look at how aggressive and quick Richter was against penalty shots.

Penalty shots are the easiest situations for goaltenders because it's only one player coming at them. They just have to keep their eye on the puck and don't go for the fake.

Did you see how far Richter would race from his net before retreating? That was kind of cool. I have played goal several times when a goalie for one team didn't show up but I may not have been at Richters level lol :D

YES there was a game against Dallas that really stood out to me.

Hanks game six against pitt to push to game 7 during our Cup Final run

Anti Raanta played a game too that stands out I can’t think who it was against but was absurd

Mike Richter to many to count

Was coming to post the Dallas one but it seems I was already beaten to the punch...

Best game I've watched in a loss by a goalie. Outshot 55 to 16 with numerous huge saves, including one in OT against Malkin.

Pittsburgh Penguins vs. New York Rangers - Boxscore - March 04, 2010 - ESPN

I think I was at that game with my dad. I didn't realize we had so few shots. I remembered that we gave up a lot, I believe that's a Rangers record for saves in a regular season game. We had multiple 2 goal leads too. I'm glad Corsi wasn't a thing back then or Machinehead wouldn't have survived that.

I love that style. Stand up goaltending was fun as f*** to watch. That's what inspired me to play goalie as a kid and teen even though I had a rocket of a wrister. Richter could come out so far because he knew he was quick and agile enough to beat the deke to the post.

Which is why goalies save percentages are lower in the shootout :sarcasm:
I don't care about stats. Would you rather face just one player or have two or three at once coming at you and you're not sure if they will pass or take the shot? In a PS situation you KNOW they'll take the shot and you can just watch the puck instead of the puck plus another player or two or three at once.

I would rather face two or three opponents if I’ve got my team in front of me.

I'm sorry, but I believe the thread asked for goaltending, not goalkeeping.
It was pretty amazing however. I’ve always wondered whether hockey and soccer goaltenders and goalkeepers communicate and learn from each other (especially European goaltenders).

Rangers Devils, Game 1 ECF 2012. 3-0 shutout.

crazy thing is, Brodeur played like an animal through those first 2 periods, as well. I'll never forget being there.

that 40+ save game vs Vancouver was ridiculous, though

I'm biased towards some of Richter's games against the Devils and Canucks in 1994.

Nobody in our house sat down.

But on a consistent year-in and year-out basis, Lundqvist has been a one man show an incredible number of times.

Yes! I meantioned it in the last GDT. That game was insane specially the last couple of minutes when they pulled the goalie. Canucks were a powerhouse back then.

it was Raanta vs the Hawks where he was unstoppable and Nick Holden scored in OT I believe.

Sad to hear about Johnny Bower, who played for the Rangers in the early to mid 1950s. I came of age as a hockey fan during the last half dozen years of the Original Six (early to mid 1960s). I saw Terry Sawchuck and Jacques Plante at the end of their careers, when they were well beyond the prime. I saw Glenn Hall when he still had some great years left. But Johnny Bower with Toronto during the mid 1960s......wow. Simply amazing. In fact, the best four goalies I have ever seen (in no particular order) were Glenn Hall, Johnny Bower, Dominick Hasek, and Patrick Roy. That’s how good Bower was.
