absolutely maddening that the Common in Wpg (Forks) prides itself in beer but their taplist is not online. not even a weekly instagram update on it. nor do they have a website or twitter feed.

hopefully winnipeg's turning into a city where people choose their venues based on wine/beer/food selection.

Yep, I was annoyed by that as well. To add insult to injury, they do provide their wine list through the Forks website. I just sent them a polite email expressing my disappointment, and urged them to rectify this asap.

guess the $10/year to have your own domain name's too much for them.

had a beer night last night. one of my friends brought a bottle of one of the Fantome beer.
i've never seen a beer gush like that in my life. we lost 2/3 of the bottle. what a mess.

Did it have a cork? I opened a bubbly once and a small piece of the cork broke off and fell in as it was being extracted. Entire bottle pretty much all over my cupboards, counter and floor. Was so pissed.

How was what was left of the Fantome? Heard they were pretty hit or miss for a while, but have been good lately.

Dipped into some Bourbon barrel aged imperial stouts last night - Dragons Milk, 2015 Ivan the Terrible and Le Temps Noir. The half pints really holds up - as good as the Ivan. Definitely their best beer.

Not bourbon aged, but we wanted to keep going so had a bottle of 2015 Darkness. Was a good night.

eh. had a sip and it wasn't good. the double dark one, or whatever. i'll stick to Printemps, Ete, Hiver and Saison. those are usually good.

And here's the reply I got back from The Forks marketing person:

Thanks for emailing. We appreciate your feedback. When we first opened The Common we did have the beer menu online, however beers were changing so frequently that we were unable to keep the menu up to date online. If you follow The Common on Instagram or Facebook, they update when new beers hit the taps.

That's pretty lazy, if you ask me. Here are the provided links to their Instagram and Facebook pages, if anyone is interested.

yeah...some Toronto bars do that. and i don't frequent them. i'm at the beer geek point where i want to know what's on tap instead of randomly going to a bar. my stuff at home's usually better than what's at the bar, so why spend $$ on meh beer?

Bar Volo (Toronto) will take a pic of their tap chalkboard and post it to twitter or their website (via a blog software) every 1-2 days. that's the easiest way to do it.

taps aren't blowing daily. so yes, The Common is lazy.

Maybe someone with a Facebook account (I refuse to get into that world) could post that suggestion to their site.

Sure the price of beer is high but at least there are no administrative fees.

Unless I am blind I still didn't see a full list on either of those sites...

Exactly my thoughts; if they posted their tap list and there was something I was interested in, I'll go.

I'm not going down there just to have a peek at what they have on tap.

It just boggles my mind why a craft beer bar would't have something as simple as a pic of the board every day or two on facebook; it literally takes a couple of minutes.

as NP said, they'll post when something new goes on tap.
so please, start and Excel spreadsheet to keep track of what's already on tap. and try to guess what's no longer on tap.
so stupid. these companies are peeing away customers (even though we're the 1%).

like, i'd head there and drink the **** out of Neopolitan. i'm not driving there to drink Torque, since you can get that at most decent wpg bars.

the last time The Common updated their tap list? 2 weeks ago. lol.
so they haven't blown a keg in 2 weeks?

Speaking of Torque... Has anyone tried much recently? I found their stout to be extremely bitter - thinking they way overdid it with the roasted barley (admittedly was probably their first batch - although if they're packaging a product and selling it you'd think they have the recipe down...)

went to barnhammer brewery on wall a while ago and got a growler of the white IPA. was pretty bad honestly. besides some half pints beers, i haven't really had anything good locally. need to start copying what they're doing out in the new england area. seems like everything here is so malty and bland.

Check out the brand new Budweiser Jets Goal Light glasses that are now shipping with 24 packs of Budweiser in select stores in Winnipeg. They are really nice. Just grabbed a couple at the local beer store and will activate them closer to the start of the season. Here's hoping they light up lots this season!!!

yeah, toronto's just started to get on the East Coast IPA trend. still missing most of the time.
5-30% flaked malts. little to no crystal malts. all late hop/flameout/whirlpoo hop additions. use a good yeast. watch your pH.
not that tough.
but we still have dodos making west coast IPAs. malty, full of crystal malts, dank hops. people still drink it. but they're so heavy handed.

Very good read here largely about the potential upside to a craft brewer "selling out". When thinking about craft beer snobbery it's hard not to draw a parallel to "alternative" or "indie" music and how afficionados of the style were only interested in bands that no-one else had heard of and/or whose records were only available as "imports". The reality was that many of those bands only really started to make great records when they "sold out" and could then afford decent production staff and facilities.

I am interested to see what happens with Brew pubs in Winnipeg here in the next couple of years. Some interesting tax credits for investors in the sector right now. I have not researched it enough to speak from a position of authority but a buddy is opening a new place and he really caught my attention with some numbers he was sharing.

For beer geeks it could lead to increased local options.
