I'm not for blindly keeping Flus. I'm definitely against keeping Getsy. But, year one was a complete teardown. Year two was learning how to win. Year three is the pivotal year in a rebuild.

And those expectations, they were laughable to me. I had them 6-7 wins. They had zero DE's to start the season and mediocre and young questions at DT. They added one quilty DE during the season, and all of a sudden things are clicking. The offense has a patchwork interior Online, and one target on the outside, with a mediocre backfield. There's still roster building to do before we can expect wins.
Yeah I agree on the expectations I’m just talking about what a lot of people thought week 1.

Fields had a good overall game. The defense continues to be historically bad. Like worst ever.
Fields just threw for 4 TDs and 300 yards and lost to the worst defense in the league. I don’t see 3 wins for this team. In fact, I’m not sure they win a game with this coaching staff and roster.

This was from you on October 1st, after the Broncos game.

I'm not calling out old posts to prove anything, as we all have old posts that turn out wrong or look odd in time. I probably have a million of them.

I'm trying to remind you of the massive growth this team and defense has taken this year. It's incredible really. Fast forward 3 months from the 'historically bad defense' and they've been one of the top units over at least the last month.

The team you didnt see 3 wins from has already doubled that and looks poised to hit 7 or maybe even 8 wins.

The team has far exceeded your expectations and you want the head coach sent packing for it?

I mean back then, with how bad the defense was playing and how bad our offense is, yeah that is what I thought. Offense basically had a ceiling game against Denver and we still lost...Sweat trade, some guys got healthy, and I obviously didn't expect to play Josh Dobbs and Brian Hoyer in those games. Maybe I underestimated how bad our schedule was.

I even gave credit to the defensive turnaround. Listed their EPA since week 6 in here. Which is #1.
A lot more to being a HC than just defense for a defensive HC. I mean he did hire the DC that not only got fired but called terrible defense. We going to trust him to hire another OC? There is offensive gameplan, defensive gameplan, timeouts, 4th down. Situational playcalling. We have three games this year that were basically impossible to lose. We lost all three.

I 100% agree with you that Flus has improved and the team has gotten better and it seems they like the coach. You're in a situation where you are likely changing the OC, and the QB. Its a unique situation. The team has grown, but is Flus so game changing that you're going to buck the trend of wanting to match your QB with a HC at the same time? To me the answer is no.

And I'll be honest...I had thoughts before the season that if things fell right, they could have been a playoff team this year. I was wrong, clearly.

And they probably could have if not for 2 things I will zero in on:

1) The 3 4th quarter choke games. Ok stuff happens.
2) Justin Fields hasn't developed like I thought he would.

#2 is the bigger problem going forward. And that's why I am for moving on from Fields this off-season.

I also thought that. I expected way more from Fields this year. I also expected more from the defense early on. I also didn't expect to blow games like we did.

I agree on #2. Which is why we should move on from the whole staff. Why do we want to do this John Fox, Nagy thing where you keep them and give them a new QB?

I wish Caleb had a better senior year so it would have been even more clear. He just didn't. I still like him at #1 obviously but there are questions that I think weren't there his junior year when he just balled out and made every play.

As far as the OC., I've posted before that I worry they couldn't get a good one if he is considered a potential lame-duck head coach. That's why I mentioned yesterday - if they do keep Flus, and I dont know if that's true or settled - but if they do, then they probably need to show stability and give him an extension.

And far as picking the OC - let Warren, Poles and Flus all work on that together on that. They all have a lot at stake in who gets brought in.

I really need Carolina to win. I want the QB decision taken out of the Bears hand.
Have you seen the rumor from SI that Washington wants to move up to #1 if the Bears have that pick?

Even if you don't want Caleb - why would you not want that to happen? The rumor is #1 OA to Washington for #3OA, #36 OA, Washington 1st & 3rd round picks in 2025. That's a massive potential haul, and you could still select either Drake Maye or MHJ at #3.

And honestly, it could bear a repeat of 2023 season, as we already know the Washington team has quitters on it (per Montez Sweat';s comments and their current 6 game losing streak) and a new coach would be coming in to lead a team with a rookie QB. It's like a repeat of the Carolina situation.

You also potentially have team like Raiders who are a QB away from being playoff team and potential contender who could be looking to trade up into draft for one of the big 3 QB's

i've been on team trade down on a couple of boards. I've felt you get more value from the #1 pick than Fields. Which is why I am comfortable running it back with Fields for one more time. So if you can get that Commanders deal, then do it.

Some thoughts about the Bears pick:

Suppose the Bears pick lands at #10. I suspect that means Nabers is gone (3QB, 3OT, MHJ still leaves 2 more players to be picked before the Bears). My guess is that the Bears will have the option to add Odunze or Bowers at that point. I've been leaning WR, but that's mostly because Kmet is a good TE and the relative value of picking at TE high in the draft is so low.

At #10, the player will earn approximately $24M over 4 years. That's not great value for a TE, so Bowers will still have to be close to a surefire star almost right away. He might be.

Could the Bears employ the almost constant 12 personnel necessary to make having that much money and draft capital tied up in the TE position? Is Bowers more of a sure bet than Odunze? Odunze will almost certainly be out there on every offensive snap when he's not resting.

The Bears will pick #9 at worst unless they win out.

The problem is you have very low odds od anyone with OC or play calling experience. Is it possible you get someone else from the Greenbay tree so the O isn't gonna change systematically a ton?

The chances keeping Flus and getting a reputable OC are slim
