Jalen Carter might turn out to be the best player in the draft, but the Bears made the right decision. A buddy of mine from Altanta hinted Jalen was well known with the police in the UGA area. This was well before the drag racing tragedy became public. As more info drips out, it appears he was correct. Jalen has serious maturity issues on and off the field. Whether he wants to mature, that's still a major question. It was never a question if the Bears locker room could handle him.

Kevin Butler works with the team and says carter could not be a nicer kid and this incident was a one off. Who knows. I am happy with the tackle they picked so I wish Carter well and hope he succeeds.

Wright was the correct pick just because Da Bears now have a franchise QB to think about, in Fields.

More than the traffic incident I was put off by him showing up in such bad shape after being in shape before he knew he’d be a millionaire.

Not a one off. Reports are finally out that he was driving on a suspended license. He's had other issues. I don't think he's a bad kid. However, he is extremely immature. The risk reward was not worth it. That said, his physical talent is undeniable. If he's willing to become more mature, he can be a dominant player. That's still a big if.

I hate Cover 2. Its the NFL version of the trap.
Sit back, be passive and wait for your opponent to make a mistake.

A. COOK COUNTY assesses the property values for tax purpose, not Arlington Heights.

B. Bears are trying to get cute and could very easily screw this whole thing up.

So what really happened? If I understand the crux of the matter - it's the tax levy which is based on the assessed value of the property. So, again - what happened? Was the assessed value raised after the Bears bought the property? I have to assume so because otherwise the Bears didn't do their due diligence in figuring out the total cost which would have included the property taxes.

The fact that the City of Chicago didn't want the Bears to move to Arlington Heights and now Cook County is playing hardball smells a little like collusion to me.

Screw Cook county and the city - find a tract of land in Will or Kane or Kendall.

My layman's understanding is the county is using the Bears purchase price as the assessed value since... that's what the Bears just paid for it.

That makes sense from my layman's understanding - but where did the disconnect happen? Shouldn't the Bears' brain trust have thought of that? This thing just seems like it was a giant brain fart on somebody's part.

I dont blame the Bears here. Illinois property taxes are absurd and them making the taxes 5x the previous amount is ridiculous. All of us who own a home or business in this state are getting screwed every day with the taxes they charge us, well above just about anywhere else in this country.

As said by others above, I believe this is more Cook County's doing than Arlington Heights. Is this someone pissy over the Bears wanting to leave Chicago? I suspect a deal will be worked out here and it will be fine. And it should. Who is Arlington Heights/Cook County going to get to buy that land and pay $16 mil a year in taxes and still profit in anything? Good luck with that.

And for Naperville. I lived in Naperville before I move to Dundee 5 years ago. I am guessing this must be in the southern part of town around 75th street, because the rest of the city doesnt seem to have much unused land? I do love that town and if Cook County's greed opens the door for the Bears, I would expect Naperville/Dupage County to swoop in and work a deal for massive tax breaks.

The amount of money a dome stadium would generate for the local economy would more than be worth even 100% waving taxes for the property.

I don’t see it that way. The city shills on the county board raised the assessments on the site prior to any improvements being made. A clear attempt to punish the Bears for leaving Chicago.
Also it is common practice for the appropriate govt agencies and utilities to run the proper equipment (water - sewer - electricity) to a property install meters and such and then the landowner runs it all over their property at their expense.
Cook county wants the team to both the on and off site expenses.

I’d laugh my ass off if they do move it to Naperville. It would cost the county thousands of jobs and millions in real estate, sales and business taxes.

Look at your property tax bill. The valuation (for tax purposes) is significantly less than the homes value.
That may be true in many cases, but it's literally what the county did in the case of the Bears property.

They bought the property at $197 million, and the county assessed it at $197 million.

And the assessor’s office is dominated by Chicago. What, were they expecting a tax break from a bunch of Chicagoans over the team leaving Chicago?

Between wasting political capital on trying to get a state tax break that just let Chicago and downstate politicians unite to high five each other for easy political points opposing such a DOA bill and being surprised at a completely foreseeable tax bill, the Bears are clearly not the sharpest tools in the shed.

Lake County off 294, near where their headquarters are. Nah, makes too much sense.

Theoretically, the taxes should be lowered when all of the improvements are removed. It then is vacant land only, until they build. So, maybe 3 or 4 years at a reduced rate is what actually, by law, happen.

Have the Bears considered moving to Northern Indiana?

Thousands of Cook County residents are fleeing to Northern Indiana yearly and its booming when it comes to economic development and population growth.

Would be great way to stick it to Cook County/Illinois

Seriously there is also a city with a major airport, connection to Chicago transit and has lots of unused land and looking for major turnaround economically.

Yeah, I am talking Gary, Indiana!

Imagine a multi-billion-dollar land development deal that brings in major revenue yearly thru concerts, etc. to city and the effects it could have on area surrounding stadium as well as employment opportunities both during building and after construction.

It would not be all that different then New York Giants and New York Jets playing in East Rutherford, New Jersey

Everyone plays some form of the cover 2. It's the basic NFL defense where the 2 safeties play 2 deep zone. What you're thinking of is the Tampa 2 ... where they play 7 in a zone with 2 deep and hope the front 4 gets to the QB. The key to this defense is to keep the offensive players in front and funnel the outside receivers inside. It is a passive defense in pass coverage where the middle was open. That was Lovie.

Eberflus plays a variation of the Tampa 2, but different. He's far more aggressive (he blitzed a lot more last - he had too) and willing to press his corners on passing downs. Richard Sherman once said Eberflus' Indy defense employed exotic pass defensive concepts that blew his mind. It's cover 2 but not as vanilla as you think ... the slot can play some form of the robber. It helps him get his hands in the ball on crossing concepts.

Vic Fangio also employs a passive defense in his two high shell. It's exactly what you think it means. 2 safeties play deep cover 2. In Vic's 3-4 defense, he's inviting the offense to run and beat his defense methodically.

Eberflus still wants to get pressure with his attacking front 4, but his back 7 is far more complicated. He likes his corners to be physical. Just look at Kyler Gordon and Tyrique Stevenson. Furthermore, he wants to squeeze the middle of the field with a massive MLB in Tremaine Edmunds.

You can tell what Eberflus is trying to do. He's prioritizing taking away passing lanes ... and drafting big athletic freaks up front to take away the run. The front 4 needs at least another year or 2 of drafting and UFA signings. They definitely need to find a Khalil Mack type.
