HFF board 3 round mock is now in 3rd round and my selections for Bears are done

I selected

WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Ohio State) - 9th overall
EDGE Isaiah Foskey (Notre Dame) - 53rd overall
C John Michael Schmitz (Minnesota) - 61st overall
CB DJ Turner (Michigan) - 64th overall

I would be happy if this is what Bears walk away with

Bears have a 100% bust rate taking wr’s with high 1st’s — Kevin White, Terrell, Conway, Gault.

Drafting Smith-Njigba at 9 would be a bad call. He's a high-floor, low-ceiling guy (I don't think anyone in their right mind would project him as a dominant #1, which is what you want from the #9 overall pick) at a non-position of need while there should be guys in about the same tier at more premium positions (d-line, tackle). I'd rather us take a swing on a more premium position with higher upside than playing it safe and getting a good #2 WR or something.

Yeah, no interest in taking him there. Almost every scout I've heard has called him just a slot WR.

That #1 pick should almost certainly be an OL or DL. Drafting JSN is a mistake.

Bears can use a WR. JSN is likely the best in this draft and will probably have a successful NFL career. But WR at #9 would be a luxury pick that the Bears can't afford right now. Besides that J Carter was still available in that mock. And this is a draft full of WRs, many in the 2nd or 3rd round that could be decent. Would have probably taken the non-sexy pick of an OT or Carter at #9.

Some of those other picks by other teams were head scratchers. No way C Kancey falls to #46. Getting JMS at #61 is excellent.

JSN is good but the bears have bigger needs and similarly important positions

We better get back more than their mid-2nd to drop that many spots. It’s basically the same as the Fields trade, and the pick we gave up was top-10.

At the very least I’d want both of Pitts second rounders this year (32 and 49)

My main reason for drafting WR at #2 is concern about Bears depth at position

Moore is great as our #1 but after that we have Mooney coming off major injury and who has struggled to find any chemistry with Fields since he took over at QB

And shitty and unreliable Claypool

Moore and JSN would give Bears a great 1-2 punch to build on with Mooney assuming a more traditional 3rd WR role

Claypool is entering a make-or-break year and its always a red flag when Steelers give up on a young WR given their history of WR development

Conway was meh, and Gault was fast but not good. Dennis McKinnon was by far the better receiver on those teams.

Conway was good when healthy but wasted much of his career playing on teams with shitty QB situations or injured.

And McKinnon was in no ways superior or better then Gault

That is an absurd take

This deal is nuts

Conway was a stud, I would put him top ten Bear receivers ever. Of course w Bears history at that position it is kind of a tallest midget. Gault and McKinnon complemented each other perfectly.

#2 WR<<<LT/RT, EDGE/DT

We have a massive void at tackle and all along the defensive line. Even if you don't like Mooney and Claypool (which I think you're underrating them a bit. Not saying they're world beaters but as you're #2 and #3 they're really not bad), they're SIGNIFICANTLY better at their respective roles than what we have at tackle and d-line right now. Even if you think JSN is in the same category as the top tackles and the 2nd tier defensive linemen (ala Lukas Van Ness), I don't think it'd be smart to ignore the lines for a WR UNLESS you think that guys gonna be a great #1.

JSN will be great for a team that's in contention that needs an immediate contributor to their offense. His floor is high. This Bears team cannot afford to sacrifice an opportunity to get a foundational player along the line in order to shore up what is currently one of their strongest positions.

Velus Jones didn't look to good last year either? Which is why I'm super stoked Poles got DJ Moore this season. My man JF1 will have a field day (no pun intended) with his new weapon and Mooney back to being WR2! And Claypool should show signs of life since he will have a full offseason to learn the playbook and work with Fields furthermoore.

Last 2 years he has looked like shell of his former self

If Steelers gave up nothing of value its a worthwhile gamble for them

If they gave up a decent pick its not

Trade Bears #9 to Steelers for their #17 and the 2nd round pick they got from the Bears.

Pick Broderick Jones and Will McDonald
