In no way was did I compare to other plays or say one was was boneheaded and another wasn’t, or that one was/wasn’t worse than another. I simply stated my thoughts about Clarke’s knee.
I’m respectfully disagree. Clarke had options after taking a shot on net and had the view and the time to see the transition and decide his next maneuver when Sherk began skating the puck out. Defensively, Clarke could have back-checked. Understandably, he went in offensive mode and still had options. He could have tried stripping the puck off Sherk outside the Bulldogs’ zone without contact or at the same spot where the hit happened, or he could have cut in and made a clean open ice hit where he kneed Sherk. When he cut in he extended his leg so far out that it was impossible for Sherk to avoid. So it wasn’t a matter of barely sticking out the knee or looking unsure of going through with the plan. Therefore, I saw it as intent at the game and my opinion was from reinforced after watching the replay from the broadcast after, and intent to injury is suspension-worthy.
As for Clarke being lucky he didn’t lift his leg and saved himself from serious injury, that’s irrelevant and it would have been his own
