It's the start of a strange road trip for the Barracuda, as we play three games in four nights, but we go to three different cities in these games. Who does that?

@ San Diego tonight, @ Coachella Valley tomorrow, and then @ Bakersfield Saturday.

Wiesblatt and Kinal are in the lineup tonight. Chrona is backing up Romanov. Still no Makiniemi, what kind of illness did he have exactly?

Mukhamadullin has been playing on the right for a few games in a row now. Surprised they took out Guryev. Kinal-Mukhamadullin is... odd (edit: Upper body injury for Guryev. Pulli too. That would explain why we suddenly recalled Kinal in the first place)

Nollenberger listed all of the following as being injured: Studnicka, Gushchin, Lindblom, Pulli, Guryev. Makiniemi "recovering from illness."

Cuda already down 1-0, Laroque takes an early hooking penalty on his first shift and Zellweger scores on the PP.

---

Puck goes in the Gulls net and the ref never picked it up, but on replay, Barracuda have tied it up. Light didn't come on or anything. 1-1. Goal by somebody in white, currently credited to Cardwell. It was really hard to tell.

Cuda score with seven seconds left in the first period. No surprise, goalscorer is Nathan Todd. Great forecheck from him leads to him redirecting a Cassels pass into the net. Dude is on fire.

That's the end of the first, 2-1 Cuda. San Diego is the team directly above us in the standings, but they're red hot as of late, 7-2-1 in their last ten. Cuda need to stay out in the box as much as they can for the rest of this game. San Diego is coming off a game over the weekend where they went 5 for 9 on the power play and their only goal tonight was on the man advantage as well.

Mukhamadullin! 3-1 Barracuda.

Later, Romanov tries to cover the puck and just sort of misses it, leading to a huge scramble, an early whistle, and then a bunch of roughhousing. Barracuda wind up on the PK, because of an extra roughing penalty to Thomas Bordeleau, who tackled 6'4", 235 pound Travis Howe to the ice. Yes, Bordeleau. Barracuda do kill it.

Knyzhov steals the puck in the neutral zone, Bordeleau gets a shot on goal that Gulls goalie Clang thinks he has. He doesn't, it's behind him in the crease, and Rau slams the puck in to make it 4-1 San Jose.

End of the second. We're forcing lots of turnovers tonight. I haven't really been impressed by San Diego outside of their special teams. This also feels like a good time to mention that last time we faced the Gulls, we led after two periods 5-1. We only managed to win that one 5-4.

Internet went all wibbly when it started pouring earlier. Cuda win 6-2.

Big game from Bordeleau, in all phases. Three assists for him tonight and a penalty for tackling a guy twice his size. Two goals for Peterson (though one was the empty netter), who has been getting his game back lately.

Cardwell and Todd have now tied Gushchin for the team lead in goals (14).

Honestly, this one wasn't in doubt most of the game. Rare to have one of these this season.

It'll be interesting to see who might get the call-up if Sturm is, as assumed, concussed (though I guess no one has to come up with Givani Smith ready to return from the IL and Labanc still lurking in the shadows).

But if they do want to call someone up to play 3C, could Bordeleau get the call after this performance tonight? Could Nathan Todd get his first ever NHL shot? Either move would be a fun one.

Barracuda just signed two defensemen to PTOs, which does not make me optimistic on the status of Guryev or Pulli. Defense situation might be about to get hairy.

Looks like no lineup tweet, but it's the same forward lines as yesterday, with defensive pairings:
Guryev-Mukhamadullin
Simek-Kinal
Knyzhov-Frisch

Magnus Chrona starts, first time we've seen him since 1/20.

So some good news as Guryev is back in, but Gannon Laroque is not in the lineup. Was hoping this hit from Wolff at the tail end of last night's game would be nothing, but:

Firebirds score, it's (of course) Kole Lind. 1-0.

Guryev, shortly after, was ejected for a hit to the head. I've become a Guryev supporter as of late, but that was stupid.

Knyzhov may have gotten hurt blocking a shot, so fingers crossed we have more than four defensemen when we come back from break.

Driedger robs Bordeleau AND a followup by Rau (who may have just missed the net) to keep it 1-0. Urgh. Best chance they've had all night.

Knyzhov is fine, Cuda are mostly being held in check by Coachella. Shots are 23-16 Firebirds. End of the second.

Max McCormick makes it 2-0 Firebirds, as Kinal seems to forget he's playing LD and just leaves McCormick alone in front.

Barracuda are looking a little tired.

Alright, well the Barracuda went onto the power play late in the third and pulled the goalie. Mukhamadullin tried to take a point shot and his stick snapped in half, so naturally that went the other way and into our empty net.

After the restart, we turn it over in the neutral zone and that again goes into our empty net. So the scoreboard says 4-0 Firebirds, but the game hasn't been THAT lopsided.

Sabourin threw a punch at the Firebirds during their celebration of the second empty netter and he's just taken a misconduct.

That's your final. Firebirds were still trying to go after Wiesblatt for the above hit. Great game for both goalies tonight, I cannot really fault the Cuda for the loss here. Second night of a back to back against the top team in the division is a tough ask.

Not watching this one live (The Cuda gave us Sharks tickets for tonight) but it looks like it’s Teixeira and Haiskanen in for Mukhamadullin and Knyzhov. Hmm.

Muk did take an awkward hit early on Thursday but he played the rest of that game.

Anthony Vincent also returns, he’s been out for months.
