Makes me sad to hear that Simek did not look good to you last year. Maybe you caught him when he was trying to play through an injury? He's been extra injuryprone the past few years. I love Simek and I remember him being a good luck charm for the big club and I just can't help but defend him whenever people want to bury him in the minors and stuff but I've always had a love for these kinds of dmen, Ragnarsson and Stuart and Ehrhoff and Demelo.

Yeah, that's exactly it. Saw him towards the end of last year and it looked like the injuries had taken their toll on him. So when he was hurt at the start of this season yet again, I thought that was pretty much it for him, especially when he then got sent down here outright. He's made me a fan again.

On defense, Vlasic, probably. I don’t think Simek really changes much but Vlasic is cooked. The defense badly badly badly needs like two guys who can move the puck. I don’t care if they can’t play defense, I just need them to move the puck. Hell, put Gawanke in, put Thrun in, anything to give these guys life.

I really do wonder what Vlasic would do if we sent him down here. Wouldn't think that'd be something he took in stride. Would be absolutely surreal to see him in a Cuda sweater, tell you that much.

I think the defensive groups are going to be pretty static barring injury, with the exception of whatever is going to happen once Benning gets healthy. I can't really imagine anyone is itching to trade for any of our NHL defensemen, so I don't know how those spots are going to open up for a callup unless Grier's just given the green light to send everyone down. That'd be kind of an awful look.

He doesn’t have to move, will make more money than in the NHL (no escrow), I don’t know why he would fail to report. Maybe a pride thing but his NHL play would be higher if he was concerned about taking pride in his game.

I haven't really thought about Lindblom lately but just looking into it, he's got 2 points and is a team-worst -6 with the Cuda. I didn't think he was NHL quality but it looks like he might not even be AHL quality. Yikes

All I can say is he's just kinda there. I forget he's in the lineup some nights.

Puck drops at 7, first time we've seen Charlotte in a while.

Some Bay Area/Sharks connections on the Checkers roster. They've got Alex True, Jonah Gadjovich is currently with them on a conditioning loan, and forward Patrick Khodorenko is from Walnut Creek.

There was a time when I wanted the Sharks to sign Khodorenko.

Personnel-wise, it's just Lindblom out, Marek in. And Chrona backing up instead of Warm.

Dunno why they keep listing Bordeleau at LW when he's been playing center.

Checkers tie it late in the first, it's Lucas Carlsson, who is having a great year for Charlotte.

And now Romanov gets run and he's down, wow. He stays in the game, though, but that was violent.

Welp, phone died unexpectedly tonight, so much for me giving any updates

5-3 Charlotte is your final, 2 goals apiece from Carlsson and Jonah Gadjovich. Barracuda are still prone to giving up goals in bunches, which is very frustrating. Charlotte scored goals two minutes apart in the second, and then a third two minutes after the second one.

Coe took a major for boarding midway through the third. Didn't hurt on the scoreboard, but not a good hit and made it more than a little difficult to mount a comeback:

Other two Barracuda goals were from Peterson and Cardwell. Only multi-point game was from Bordeleau (1G, 1A).

Cuda face Charlotte again Sunday afternoon.

Score still 2-1, Charlotte going on a power play. We have gotten away from what was working, though. Haven’t liked this period.

—-

We catch a really nice break, though, as a Simek clear on the PK hits a lineman and basically tees up Sabourin for a breakaway and a SHG. 3-1.

The main thing I liked about this game was that the defense, early on, seemed to follow this strategy:

Is the puck in your zone? If "yes," then just throw it the hell out of there.

Very few cute breakout attempts from our zone, no dawdling with it in front of our net. We started getting away from that in the second and it led to Charlotte pinning us in, starting to get some momentum until that (admittedly very lucky) shorthanded goal put us up 3-1. We seemed to right the ship after that. Didn't let them get a ton of extended zone time. Chrona with a solid outing, though not too many big chances from Charlotte.

Scoring got spread around, only three multipoint games- Bordeleau (1G 1A), and Cassels/Cardwell (2A each)

Thanks for all these reports! Really appreciate it.

How’s Bordeleau doing? Did he pout when he was sent down or is he playing hard?

And is Mukh developing okay?

Thanks, sir!

Bordeleau started a little slow, but then put up four points in the two Charlotte games this weekend. You could already see it when he was with the Sharks, his improvement on the defensive side of things is very noticeable. It even led to the opening goal in yesterday's game (you can see it a few posts above). Doesn't feel like he's one-dimensional anymore.

Muk's doing well, I'd like to see him stay down here a bit longer to improve on some things. He lost the PP1 point job to Thrun (not that the power play has been any better with Thrun on it) but he's still an all-situations guy for us. He'll need to get stronger, but that's a thing that will happen over time. My biggest complaint about him is he's sometimes a little too careless with the puck.

That’s great news on both guys. I was worried Bordeleau would sulk but it sounds like he’s taken the notes to heart and is trying to keep improving, I’m glad.
