Shouldnt there be some talent coming up?
Yes, there should be, but sadly there isn't.

I hope the younger guys that are down there when they should be in the NHL aren't getting discouraged that the GM would rather have them get shellshocked down there on a nightly basis compared to the big league.

The two goals. I mean, the one positive thing I can relay on is that Okhotiuk might provide some entertainment once he comes back up to the Sharks (which will happen very soon), you can see him driving in on the second goal there.

My takeaway from this game is that while I've liked how we've played for parts of this season, it really is a bit sad how much better the Firebirds still look than us. We play them again tomorrow.

Yikes. This team shouldn't be so bad. We've seen all these defensemen, for instance, and we know they shouldn't be so bad at this level. I can't help but be worried, after last season, how the coaching for the Barracuda might be doing damage or holding back certain guys who could/should be NHL performers within the next calendar year.

I didn't watch, though, so please tell me if there's something else that led to this (bad bounces, a few individual bad performances, heads dropping--though that's also not a good sign for the coaching).

I am also worried about our coaching and continue to find it odd to have a very new coach be in charge of the development of a rebuilding team. I feel like they’ve done a lot to focus on growing our new guys except put in a solid AHL coaching group.

That said, I haven’t watched the games, so maybe it’s a personnel issue.

The worry is that Grier is keeping McCarthy in sort of as a means of being an organizational good soldier, seeing that McCarthy was put in place a month or so before he was put in charge. Like, Let's allow Will to have this one for a while. But now with some actual prospects being in place with the 'Cuda, it could be somewhat detrimental to those guys' development.

To be fair, even if we have some faith about parts of this Barracuda team, like the current defense, these are guys who have developed no chemistry and might be dealing with their individual issues in being with the Barracuda (Okhotiuk on conditioning, Simek being waived, Thrun being sent down just because he has options and others don't, Pulli being new to the smaller North American ice surface, Gawanke thinking he was going to get his shot in the NHL, Mukhamadullin still being new to NA ice...), so I don't want to get ahead of myself with this criticism, but there are legitimate causes for concern right now.

Said it ad nauseum last season, but Coachella is really good. They won the Western Conference last year. They're a stacked roster, they added Shane Wright this time around, and also have Chris Driedger in net, who has absurd numbers to start the year. This team just repeatedly thumped us last season, I don't believe we beat them a single time. Frankly, I was hoping we'd closed the gap on them a bit this time around, but we aren't going to do it if we turn over the puck at the rate we were tonight.

Tomorrow, get the puck out of your own zone, and quit turning it over up high in the offensive zone. Also, maybe scratch Pulli. I had just said I came around on him, but he had a really rough game (#77 in the video below)

If you replace a huge chuck of the team and they’re experiencing the same issues they had last year - discipline, turnovers, not being able to hold a lead - surely the Coach has to be held accountable.

The best part is that the Sharks won’t be getting any solid NHLers developed through NHL despite being awful for a number of years. The longer this team stinks, the longer the rebuild for the Sharks will be.

Next years Cuda should have some guys outta the Bystedt, Lund, Havelid, Musty, Smith pool right? At some point that team has to have some real talent or this rebuild is going to go on forever. How does Coe look? He's a big dude so imagine his curve would be a little slower

Bystedt will almost certainly be on the Cuda next year unless he makes the Sharks. I think Lund (and Smith) will probably stay in college at least one more season after this one. I don't think Havelid is eligible to play for the Cuda until he turns 24 so it's Sharks or SHL for him. Musty definitely won't be eligible.

It's not that he can't, it's that the SHL club needs to agree to letting him go. Iirc the NHL team can make more unilateral decisions on where the 1st round picks

Havelid will be 20 on 1/1/24. As he was drafted out of a European team, he could have played in the AHL in 22-23. But he's playing in SHL, not under a NHL contract.

Do you know if his current contract has a "NHL out" (IOW, he can exchange contract for a NHL one)? Do you know if he has an agreement with the Sharks as to when he'll come to North America (to play)? Do you know that he's ready/interested in playing with the Sharks, or at sometime in the future?

Sharks hold his NHL rights until at least 2031.
