Anyone see multiple 50 goal seasons coming down the pipe??? I always thought he had the potential to put up points but believed they would be far more A's than G's.
I don't think anyone did, but when you have Connor McDavid feeding you the puck, it's a given you're going to get more than your fair share. Zak Hyman another case in point.

Sure, but the difference is that Hyman has always been more of a goal scorer than a playmaker. Leon as a kid was an elite distributor but was not the one shot demon you see today. That was a completely new wrinkle in his game. I first saw this watching him practice those insane angle shots with McDavid during the warm-ups in about his third year. Since then he has perfected that shot. It is really quite insane how accurate he is.

Guaranteed? Broberg if he's still around, I'd also bet on Lavoie finally getting a proper shot.

Odds are the Oil will sign a cheap vet or two to round out the bottom 6. Personally, I wouldn't mind bringing Henrique and maybe Janmark back if their contracts don't break the bank. Maybe a reunion with Kostin if the Sharks aren't super high on him?

Bakersfield was super heavy on vets this year with Pederson, Griffith, Gags, Cags, Hamblin, Malone, McKegg, and Enre all in the top 9 mix; the two prospects featured were Holloway and Lavoie.

Next year I think it'll just Pederson, Caggiula, and Hamblin as the "veteran" core, with Bourgault, Tullio, Petrov, and Savoie being given every opportunity to rise to the top, and Wright, Grubbe, and Philp in the next group pushing them.
I hope Petrov makes a jump next year with the Condors. I think he's a bit of a darkhorse, but he's got good size and a great wrister. Came on a bit at the end of the year, but hoping for some bigger improvement in his second go round. Kind of pulling for him since his days with the Battalion.

Looks like the Oil have drafted another North Bay Battalion in Dalyn Wakely. Maybe have both he and Petrov playing together someday in Bakersfield. Had 39 goals and 65 assists in 66 games played this season.

He's still young, but there's a decent log jam forming at wing in Bakersfield. Assuming Pederson, Hamblin, Grubbe, and Philp are you starting pivots, that leaves you with...

  • Cags-Griffith as the vet set.
  • Tullio-Bougault are going into their last year of waiver exemptions.
  • Petrov and Cameron Wright as another set of young offensive wingers.
  • Berglund had a solid season in the ECHL, and should be knocking on the door looking for a bigger opportunity.
  • Stefan, Stonehouse, and Wakely all about to go pro and looking for spots too.
A lot of bodies in and around Savoie's level sadly.

I think Savoie was not especially great on the fitness side of things, and his one ability (shot) didn't translate to offensive success. Have to be professional and show the commitment to make it and it appears he didn't hit that mark for the talent evaluators i.e. Gretzky.

Bourgault apparently wasn't great in this regard either. Not sure how you come this close only to falter now but he's also on the path from prospect to suspect. He might get one more shot under Kalle Larsson as Senior Director of Player Development but not many chances left.

I have confidence that Bourgault's year was a bit of a one-off. From what I've read, he's made some pretty significant strides on the defensive side of his game and IMO that's the part that the Oilers really have to have confidence in if he's going to get an extended look in Edmonton.

We know these guys can put up points to a certain extent. But where these guys need to make noise at the NHL level is on a checking line where that offense isn't always going to be there. So how do you stand out? Holloway seems to have it figured out.

I've been waiting patiently to see what Lavoie and Rodrigue can do in the NHL (with decent opportunity). I know we are in a win now mode and moves being made are helping us "win now". It seems these two kids likely won't get a real shot on our club, but will either be traded away or claimed before we see their true potential.

Yeah Lavoie is in tough with the additions of Skinner and Arvidsson. Hopefully he clears waivers and makes the most of his opportunity if he gets one with the Oilers next season. Bourgault is 1 year away from being waiver bait which is even worse considering his draft position.

Curious about him myself - did get into one AHL game and put up 58 points as a defenseman in the WHL (on the downside, he was in his overage season and Edmonton was last in its division).

At 6'6" it would seem he would get attention. Any word on him being invited to a development camp or main camp?

Edit: He attended Colorado development camp in 2023.

I think that he wasn’t at development camp while other recent signings like Connor Ungar and James Stefan were, is a bit of a tell.

Why is Colin Chaulk back?... He's terrible at development

Rodrigue will get a shot. Lavoie won't

Lost Sylvain Rodrique, who is off to seek opportunity elsewhere. Wonder why they didn't move him into the goaltending coach role. Still don't understand how the living f*** that asshole Schwartz is still employed by this organization, and has survived every single coaching / front office regime change out. Every single f***ing one. Please Jackson, find a way to get rid of that parasite.
