EDIT: Hahah. I thought I was replying to @Oilhawks . But nothing is official under you fire up the Fire Woodcroft movement, ye of itchy finger.

I think there's a strong identity that's been established under Holland and implemented very well within the development pipeline by Woodcroft and now Chaulk. I'm much more confident there is a strong teaching and development model in place to nurture the kids (+ at all levels). That includes bringing in a guy like Duncan Keith to mentor and instruct kids with the mental skills required to play but also strength and conditioning.

While still a flawed team, they're passed the old Oiler way of doing things by fast tracking kids into NHL jobs and then often playing them above their development capabilities.
I still have faith in Woodcroft … for now ;)

But one day we could be chaulking up the wins.

There are fans that have written off the following players that should be considered still developing (IMO):

Broberg
Bouchard
Rodrigue
Lavoie
Holloway (not that he won't be an NHL player, but that he's not going to be very good)

Next season, you can probably add the following unless they graduate to the NHL with minimal to no hiccups

Savoie
Tullio
Bourgault
Munzenburger

The only players that I'd say deserve such critiques at this point are JP, Yams, and Benson. These players are getting close to the "they aren't likely to get much better" territory which is being reinforced by poor starts this season (Benson of course being injured so who knows?)

Broberg and Bouchard have both shown promise (Bouchard even more so, in some ways), patience is key with those two in particular due to their position of play. Rodrigue has looked better, so might take another step like Skinner (doubtful he's ever as good as Skinner has been, but not many young goalies have had as promising an NHL start as Skinner has and hopefully continues :crossfing)

Lavoie was written off by many but has had a decent go since coming back from injury.

If anything, the shade thrown at Holloway is the most disappointing. He's had some tough luck and isn't getting much rope but fans should still find him a tantalizing prospect. He'll arrive by the end of the season, IMO
I can touch one some of them.

Broberg- Never high on to begin with and still don’t see it in his game. Defensively he is super suspect and offensively seems to only exist on the PP. Vanishes 5v5. He will probably be an NHL player of some level but worth a top 10 pick with the other players we passed on? No. Potential to be a 4/5 defender? Sure.

Rodrigue- Another player I just wasn’t high on, and honestly has never really been all that good. Goalies are kind of all over the place so who knows but his game has never impressed me. Rodrigue has looked better this year but the defence around him has been very solid, his game isn’t all that good imho.

Bouchard- Not a bust but won’t be as good as some thought. Strong offensive game potential but he will never be good defensively, far too many flaws there but it is what it is. Should still be a good 4/5 defender.

Lavoie- he has been a 1/2 point per game player in the AHL which is pretty substandard for a prospect like him. Trending to bust but could be a late bloomer?

Holloway- Not a bust yet and has potential but the NHL game seems too much for him right now and it wasn’t like he was running circles around AHL competition. When he was drafted I saw a guy who could be a middle 6 guy 30-40 points. Never saw a guy that would be able to produce well at this level but a guy who could be a solid depth player.

I maintain that the two D in particular, it is far too early to make conclusions on their defensive games. We have a player on this team that is leaps and bounds better defensively than he ever was on the team the drafted him and had him til he was 25 years old.

It's far too early to assume that Bouchard is only going to be a 4/5 defender. All due respect, I don't think you, or anyone here has the judgement ability to say that about a 23 year old defenseman, particularly one that sat for most of a developmental season. If two seasons from now his defense hasn't improved, sure. He has shown flashes of better defensive play.

I’m basing it off of his hockey career so far. At no level was he good defensively. Absolutely it’s something he could learn. And really it’s not all that much of a negative.

I’ve mostly seen him as a Barrie kind of player. Second pair great offensive dman who isn’t good defensively at all. That’s a useful player for sure. In retrospect and really even at the time, Dobson was right there.

That said, if Bouchard had a partner who was strong defensively I think he would look better as he would be able to play more of his game.

The boys are getting shit stomped by Calgary's farmhands, 4-0 Flamers with 6 minutes left in the 2nd.

Condors Roadkill to Flamer Jrs 5-1:

Highlights include horrendous PK; the most egregious turnover you'll ever see as Demers bad pass gives the Flamers a 150 foot 3 on 0 break. Broberg shown wearing a full vision. Trucked at home.

Justin Bailey played his 2nd game for the Condors and scored both of the teams goal in another win for the Flames farmhands. Broberg added an assist. Wasn't he supposed to be a PTO for us and then I never heard anything about him until looking at the boxscore. Ryan Fanti actually had a pretty solid game, giving up 3 goals on 40 shots. The Wranglers scored 2 EN goals including a SH one to go up 2 before ultimately winning 5-2.

Also total bust (thanks Fire Holland topic) Bourgault scored.

8 points in 15 games. Disgusting. Get him out of his franchise ASAP.

He hasn't exploded yet. I want him OUT.
I haven't frequented the Fire Holland thread because I'd rather not bang my head against a wall but were there really morons, yes morons, that were calling X a bust?

No one is saying a bust, but there's no indication this player is anything special either. 8 points in 15 AHL games is nothing special. Benson was close to a PPG in the AHL and he is barely a 13th forward at the NHL level. Eberle had 23 points in his first 20 AHL games by comparison, Bourgault is no where close to that.

There's no one in the Oilers system that stands out as a slam dunk kind of prospect.
