How's Patrick Russell doing? Could he be a future 3RW for the Oilers?

From what I've seen/heard, if he improves his skating he might have a chance. He only has 3 points in 15 games this season, but he did have decent offence in college.

Thanks. The discrepancy in his production between college and Bakersfield made me wonder whether 1) he was having difficulty adjusting to the pro game, i.e. physicality and pace, 2) he was getting chances but not cashing in on them, or 3) something else.

With his college record he showed promise but we've seen too many prospects have promise and not fulfill it.

And Lander just scored. Bake's offence really seems to be hurting right now. Once Pakarinen is back (and hopefully clears waivers if they choose to go that route) I hope they get a boost. They could certainly use Benning back too down there. Feel like he would create a lot for them with his ability to get pucks on net.

Condors offense is a mess. Lost lots of veteran players in the offseason. Beck has been spectacular and Lander will be great at an AHL level, but there's just not that much there otherwise. Great goaltending, good D, weak offense.

Bako as a whole is CRAP. Houle does the PP and it is great for the OTHER team. We never shoot. We wait for the one perfect time and have to set up to shoot which by the time you stop the puck and set up the goal tender is already in position.

Offense past Beck is ZERO. Defense is ok....Reinhart and Musil are the best defense we have. Fraser is ok most nights. Essentially this is repeat of last year but our stats are far worse. last year we were at 500 all season long up to the end. This year we are trying to stay above 400. Ellis is far better than LB and still we suck.

Russell is non existent. Like I said past Lander and Beck we have zip on offense. As far as I can remember Russell plays every game. Yesterday they released Newbury because Fayne was coming here but he is not today and he was a great player that we lost.

If Bako would play a hard checking game we would win, but we do not. We touch the opponent gently and ask them if it is ok.....WE have not taken one boarding call or charging call all season. We take LOTS of stick penalties because frankly we cannot keep up so we do stick penalties to try to slow them down. Completely stupid penalties

How has Oesterle looked?

He has NOT played a single game this year due to injury.

Fayne is a healthy scratch today after being recalled......I just love having players who have not basically played all season sitting in the arena instead of on the ice here staying in game shape or getting into game shape. In Fayne's case maybe getting his game back

Well Lander seems to have a good start.
2 GP 1 G 3 A.

Beck/Hamilton/Lander scoring 4 out of the total of 5 goals in these last 2 GP.

He is such a tease...

I predicted he would go down and produce a ton offensively. He's elite in the AHL, but just can't translate it to the NHL. Despite all that he's still a good depth player/call-up option.

Brossoit shut out tonight. Ton of wealth in net in AHL between him and Ellis.

Goaltending is by far the best thing the Condors have this year. Ellis and Brossoit are both top 15 goalies in the AHL, even before the shutout.

Edit: #4 and #6 in Sv Pct now.

I seem to recall you're a Bakersfield guy that watches the games right?

If so, care to elaborate on those 2? Has Brossoit really been elevating his play of late to the point where he might be ready for an NHL call-up soon?

And how has Ellis looked aside from the stats? How's his composure and rebound control looked? I really didn't expect much of him at the time of the signing, but he was very impressive in the rookie tourney and seems to be transitioning very well to pro.

Actually some nice shots on Lander's goals tonight after seeing the replays. No surprise that the team is rolling now with Lander down there. I bet he just dominates face-offs down there. Even if he never figures it out, I still think he's good for the development of some of our players down there. He's also not a bad depth call-up by any means.

Wonder if Brossoit gets a call up soon if he keeps it up.

I was wondering about a Brossoit or Ellis call up as well as it seems that they don't trust Gus whatsoever and are going to run Talbot into the ground at this rate.

Good to see that my boy JuJu got a shorty, he should be with the big club next season.
Lander is the next Alexander Giroux. It's amazing how he can score so easily at that level and provide absolutely nothing offensively at the NHL level.

More Matty Hendricks than Giroux this year. He's basically an ace on the draw, a solid PKer and very good on the forecheck. We were lucky to get him through waivers the second time.

I'd expect him to finish the year in the NHL, either with Edmonton or on another team after being traded.

Brossoit is more technical than Ellis. Ellis tends to move a bit less economically than Brossoit, but his reflexes cover for it. Brossoit is right in line with last year, from my perspective. He's an A goalie in the AHL with nothing left to prove there. What he needs is NHL minutes behind a competent D so that he can take the next step. Problem is that though the Oilers are more competent this year, they may still be throwing him to the wolves a bit.

Lander: 3 GP, 4 goals 3 assists and a +5.

In his last 78 AHL games, he's got 31 goals and 59 assists for 90 points and is a +20.

Safe to say that he's really got nothing left to learn at the AHL level, he's dominant down there. Which makes it all the more infuriating that he's such a black hole once the games gets a little faster and the goalies a little better at the NHL level.

I also think we're going to see Khaira make a big push to make the Oilers next year. He's starting to look very good now.

Lander is simply amazing in the AHL. Not only does he score a whack of goals and points, he is also a beast 2 way player. Too bad he cant be more than a average 4th line guy in the NHL. I could see him heading back to Sweden next offseason given our forward situation and even guys like Khaira/Puljujarvi being full time next year. Only Hendricks comes out likely

If we could keep him in AHL for next 2 years thatd be great. He is a major asset to that team

Thanks for the reply. I found last season Brossoit looked too robotic and wasn't playing to his athletic skills like he did in junior as much. Of course I have nothing wrong with him trying to perfect his technical game, but I think he's capable of being a more dominant goalie by relying on his athleticism in some situations over his positioning. This preseason I thought he looked better in that regard and more confident in challenging shooters.

At this point I wouldn't mind giving him a shot over Gus as back up. The team defence isn't perfect, but its heavily improved and I think he could thrive if given a shot.

He should be better than Gus already. As a Condors fan, I was pleasantly surprised he was back in the AHL. He's a dominant AHL goalie.
