The Flames have a massive amount of cap space especially if they trade Markstrom.
Offer your bad contracts and draft pick(s) attached to it to the Flames.

Even in NMC fantasy land you need to add more value for getting both of those things done.Jeff Skinner won't waive his NMC, but in fantasy land:
Skinner + 11oa for Kadri 50% retained
(Kadri won't waive his NMC either l

lol what roster are you looking at? There isn't anybody they could sign that would get them into the playoffs. They have a bottom 5 defence and bottom 10 forward core.Not sure why Calgary would want to take on bad contracts this year. If you look at who is signed you could make a potential run for the playoffs next year if you add a few short-term pieces. After that its probably a good time for a rebuild.
Also, you have tanking teams like Chicago, SJ, Ana, and Columbus to compete with for bad contracts. It just does not seem like this is the year for bad contracts to Calgary.

If the Devils want to give up the 10th for Markstrom, Calgary takes that and runs. Absolutely no reason to involve MontrealIf the Devils like Markstrom and the Habs can get their hands on the 10th pick, I'm wondering what the Habs, Flames, and Devils can do for each other? Habs can offer the Flames their 1st back and take Markstrom. Other pieces like the Avs 2nd or Kapanen (center prospect trending well) can be on the table.
The other angle is how do we help the Devils by offering 50% retention on Markstrom? Either the Habs or Flames can do it... depending on the pieces involved.
Platform to discuss:
* Jets 1st
* Flames 1st
* Markstrom at 50% retention (Maybe Habs and Flames split it)?
* Devils 10th OA
* Habs have other pieces like the Avs 2nd and B+ prospects like Kapanen that could be in the mix.
Is there a deal here?

Even at 50%, Flames would need to add IMO. Habs can offer both 50% retention and add the Jets 1st on top (Flames 1st goes back to the Flames in the Markstrom trade to the Habs).
What do the Devils fans say about Markstrom at 50% for 10th OA? Not sure, you tell me. Would you add the Canucks 1st?
There are far worse teams in the league that might do this. Calgary ownership seemingly just wants to compete and will have to be dragged into a rebuild kicking and screaming.
We have Vancouvers first. Zero reason to bring Montreal into it.
I can't imagine Montreal is willing to offer that much more than Calgary would
Flames should rebuild but that's easy for us fans to say. They are often very big decisions and have business impacts most fans don't understand. Risks are involved and for every team that has gone through a successful rebuild, 3-5 teams fail. You have to be prepared for 5-10 years of misery/growing pains and get lucky in the draft lottery.
Right, I am so dumb hahaPsh, just need a 1C, a 3/2D, hope to god Wolf can handle the starting load and we're back in it.
God I hate this team. Finally get the depth and development I've wanted for a decade and they give away Bennett, we lose our top 3 forwards, and get back the biggest case of yips in the league.Right, I am so dumb haha
