We overpaid but sportsnet would never tell anyone thatCalm yourself. We over paid in prospect capital but Berrios is absolutely not a middle of the road pitcher.

I get that the Org may have identified critical flaws in SWR and Martin(No tack and no power). But just from a asset point of view it is like we decided to play in an entirely different ball park to what other teams are paying for their upgrades.
Martin is having a terrible season
Berrios has no control over where he is traded. This is not a scenario where they had to overpay to acquire someone due to geography. Although your point is valid, this just isn't one of those times.Unless they are local, we always have to overpay to get players up here - seems like it's the same story in every sport.
For that kind of value though you would expect an Abrams or Gore. Padres usually make good deals, but this time they ran into the Rays, who always seem to find a way to win trades. They got three years of Snell, yeah. Not talking about pure value or anything, though... just everyone constantly throwing out the "Padres never give up their top prospects!" stuff.
Berrios is not a middle of the road guy. He's a legit top end starter. They traded from a position of strength to address a position of weakness.and right on cue the Sportsnet guys like Campbell already saying when the Jays got price is 2015. Not the same at all. Berrios is a middle-of-the-road pitcher. They are already defending the trade. Also defending the trade are a few other non-baseball Sportsnet personalities. The memo must have gone out earlier to all Sportsnet people to praise the deal no matter how crappy it looks.
.424 OBP and 132 wRC+ in his pro debut while playing two up-the-middle defensive positions. Awful!
Yeah I mean I can go out on a limb and say we did not trade a Fernado Tatis level prospect here. What the actual ****!
This is really really bad. Like the white Sox trading Tatis bad.
We just gave up the second best prospect in last years draft for a year and a half of a good but not spectacular pitcher.
Between this and David Krejci announcing he's done in North America I think it's time I turn my phone off for the day
I get believing they overpaid, but how on earth is this the end of the Jays? Does Berrios make them a far worse team for the next 2 years in your mind?RIP Jays. Ridiculous trade.
I have to wonder if the Jays organization didn't value Martin very highly compared to our other position prospects. We heard who they were targeting in the draft last year and it wasn't Martin since no one thought he would be there.
They specifically targeted and developed Martinez, Groshans, Moreno, Manoah and Pearson. Perhaps they saw him as too good draft value to pass on and knew they could deal him later as other organizations thought more highly of him than they did?
Talking to calm down, ha.
Seriously though, go get a 3B and I guess use Pearson along with Hand and Romano in late innings?
Yeah I don’t think the white Sox thought that either when they traded him for James Shields.Yeah I mean I can go out on a limb and say we did not trade a Fernado Tatis level prospect here.
