Now I'm curious what was on the phones of some of these young players. Must be some pretty scandalous stuff if they were so uncomfortable with just showing it to someone. Pro tip: get burner phones for your salacious content.
What a stupid post.

People have private stuff on their phone. Showing it to someone else could be breaking trust

Perhaps a teachable moment about not rushing to defend a career villain from allegations.

Babcock is a toxic personality who showed no signs of rehabilitation, pulling off his latest act despite being forced away from the game for years. Yet another shitpie in the face of the hockey dinosaurs, the old boys club, for being dumbdicks that never learn.

I can’t believe he got fired for this. No other coach gets canned for that. That said, it’s nobody’s fault but his that his rep is what it is.

I’m actually kind of excited for Vincent though not gonna lie. Is this gonna blow the room up or bring them together?

I agree with this. It’s the Reputation moreso than the actual situation (as we know it) that lead to this firing.

But without the Mitch Marner whining incident, this story probably doesn’t gain the traction that it does to begin with.

I’ve listened to id say 5-8 different podcasts on the situation. Read a few articles as well. The consensus is pretty clear. It was one younger athlete that we know of that was uncomfortable. Many podcast and radio shows asked former players both in Detroit and Toronto if they had dealt with this situation while they had Babcock as a coach. Some said yes, some said no. Some said they didn’t mind it, some said they weren’t asked to share photos but would have said no.

I’m not defending Babcock at all, I think it’s a weird request from a coach. But I think if any other coach asks the same question it’s a non story. But because Babcock has a history of manipulation and mind games his motivation behind this is questioned. Don’t think it’s as Egregious as people are making it to seem tbh.

Okay - die protecting him then I guess.

If it was Rick Westhead that broke this story I suspect many opinions would be different. Fact is that the 'boneheads' at Spitting Chiclets did more to protect the players than the NHLPA.

Anybody defending this act is being deliberately obtuse. This has nothing to do with 'cancel culture' and everything to do with power dynamics and privacy. When was the last time your employer asked to see through your camera roll?

Elliote Friedman has absolutely zero credibility now in my opinion. A few days ago he was willing to sweep this under the rug ("For Mike Babcock and the Blue Jackets the standard is nothing short of perfection") and now he is reporting on the inevitable and predictable demise.

The conventional hockey media and the NHLPA was willing to bury this until a couple former players, with more connections than the jock sniffing nerds that work at Sportsnet, the Athletic, TSN, extrapolated upon just how widespread this was. A couple bozos in Biz and Whitney did a better job exposing this than the people that are actually paid to pay attention to this.

The only confusing part to me is whether Babcock was doing this out of some sort of bully power dynamic or if he's just an idiot and didn't think there was anything wrong.

Also it's hilarious how it's always the same people in these threads complaining about "cancel culture" anytime anyone involved in hockey is punished for wrongdoings. Maybe take a look in the mirror at yourself if you keep defending pieces of shit just to be against "cancel culture".

I mean they all said he didn't go through their phone, multiple layers said it was nothing. Yet, he was fired lol.

The irony isn't lost on anybody that the same people who want the right to privacy under all circumstances are saying that Babcock has been "cancelled for no reason." For: violating his player's privacy by exercising his power over them for fear of losing their dream.

I mean they all said he didn't go through their phone, multiple layers said it was nothing. Yet, he was fired lol.
all you had to do was scroll up 4 posts
