This statement has people asking a lot of questions already answered by their ”this was completely inaccurate and blown out of proportion” statement.

Gotta be a record.

Hope there’s more info that comes out, the whole story is weird. Guy is hated by like ever since player who’s ever played for him though, so didn’t really believe his side of things.
Honestly its wild that this is the same coach who coached Canada to two Gold Medals

There’s a reason they don’t reveal sources. That’s how you actually get info

Expecting a player to give real dirt publicly is extremely naive, and anyhow the player interviews are usually for entertainment/drawing listeners. Also the player meetings were one on one so not everyone’s experience was the same. Everyone was saying the issue seemed to be with young players.

He did dig around and had some interesting points on his podcast, but it was very limited because people were tight lipped and it was expected to resolve soon enough.

He had said it was serious enough it wasn’t going away, and that the meeting between the players and the PA was “intense, lasted about 2 hours” which was a pretty meaningful tidbit if people assumed the teams PR release was truthful of it being “no big deal”
Elliotte Friedman asked Johnny Gaudreau the correct questions. He just asked them in a way that he didn't expect an answer back.

1. Did Babcock ask you to turn over your phone?
2. Did he post your pictures to the big screen?

Then he shouldn't be an NHL head coach...

100% agreed, I think CJ mentioned it best on the Steve Dangle Podcast on Friday. Babcock has to think about whether he’s a distraction to the organization and whether all of this is worth it to be there. I’m paraphrasing but he broke it down from everyone’s perspective and didn’t rule out Babcock just resigning as well.

I can’t believe he got fired for this. No other coach gets canned for that. That said, it’s nobody’s fault but his that his rep is what it is.

I’m actually kind of excited for Vincent though not gonna lie. Is this gonna blow the room up or bring them together?

Never outright assumed it was a super serious “must fire” issue, but seems pretty damn clear he might have done something inappropriate and was going to have issues with some of the young players, potentially the future key guys of the team

Everyone knew it was a risky hire, some older guys just don’t have it to reach the new generation of players in a constructive manner. Happens every 20 years or so, Babs himself is tame compared to coaches decades back (and I assume some of the boomers calling today’s players p***yes heard the same thing from their dads and grandads )

I wonder how much of the negotiaton was just about money, or the statement. Mind you, the managements jobs on the line too and the statement minimizing the potential issue benefits them too and is unlikely to be contested by the GM

Yeah I did and again it’s very vague. It’s not saying anything. But it’s very possible something inappropriate could have taken place, but we won’t know until the details come out. It also could just be players were uncomfortable with the request and honestly that is enough to not want someone to be the head coach in your organization. At the end of the day the right call was made. There was no way he was going to survive the media storm whether it wasn’t that bad or something serious went down.

I'd guess Kekäläinen stays for now just to keep the amount of drama lower so close to the start of the season but he's definitely on thin ice. They finnish bottom 10 in the league and he's gone for sure.
