Sure didn't take much convincing for Mike to step down. Remember he just collected 50M$ for doing nothing. Maybe he realized he really didn't want to coach in Columbus, rather just take his (2M?) Severance and get out before hunting season.
He had an investigation over his head which could've resulted in termination, and termination would've meant a big fat zero payout.

Same person that will defend Babcock and call current players soft will also bitch about their boss because they won't let them take an extra 15 min break.
99.9% of us know Babcock is scum but he's "lucky scum" and people like that exist - no matter how much BAD they do in life, they come out on top. It is what it is.

Hopefully he does some good with his severance - I'm sure he doesn't need the money but some foodbanks would.

No one with a $8M contract walks away with nothing. If they tried to make him leave with nothing, he'd lawyer up and the Blue Jackets would spend millions fighting the case - with no guarantee they'd win..

They gave him something to go away - like it or not.

No one with a $40M contract walks away with nothing. If they tried to make him leave with nothing, he'd lawyer up in the litigious U.S. and the Blue Jackets would spend millions fighting the case - with no guarantee they'd win..

He definitely walked away with money, but it was a 2 year $8 million total contract.

No sure.

But whatever they were alluding too with the further allegations must've been pretty damn bad.
I don’t think the phone thing is the only thing that did Babcock in. I just can’t see a team firing him before he’s even started training camp over that unless there was a lot more to it then what they’re saying. My family knows Babcock personally and I’ve met him many times and it’s really been disappointing hearing all this stuff come out about him since his final days in Toronto. He doesn’t seem the type just talking to him from a perspective outside the game. But I guess power is a hell of a drug. And I’m guessing the pedestal he was put on as a coach probably didn’t help that.

............

Some of the other things like Modano I don't think he has anything to apologize for.
Madano WAS the epitomy of a thin skinned, narcissistic ,bully. It defined his entire character as a human being. Don;t take it from me however, I don't know him personally, just putting 2 and 2 together. Take it from this guy.

That's the thing. They didn't try to make him leave for nothing, because there was no termination. Babcock negociated his resignation and received a payout accordingly. Columbus' interest was to not drag it out and name another coach ASAP; Babcock's interest was making sure he'd get away with something instead of a big zero following a termination.

How does it cost "millions" fighting the case, anyway? And even if it did, you're saying Babcock would have the money to readily spend millions on such a legal battle, but the CBJ team wouldn't?

Do you agree or disagree with him at the end of the day in regards to Babcock?
I know you didn't ask me, but I'd say I agree that Babcock is a dingus, but I disagree with the root of Commodore's issues with him.

He feels like Babcock ruined his career, while I think many would agree Commodore's career was coming to an end before he ever got to Detroit.

What do you mean? I agree he's toxic.
I just think it's funny that Commodore was scratched a lot and waived out of Columbus, then goes to Detroit and blames Babcock for some sort of "personal vendetta" against him because he was scratched there too. Now he's been on a 10+ year personal vendetta himself.

Babcock is a piece of shit but I think it's hilarious that people are blowing Commodore and to a much lesser extent Biz (who got like 30% of the initial story correct, but since Babs looked at a phone it doesn't matter that his initial report was pretty inaccurate - but no one likes Babs so no one cares) Good on them for getting the NHLPA to go deeper, though

What a circus show. Wonder if this is the end of the line for him in the NHL. At this point in time he brings too much negative attention with him. I knew at some point we'd see him back, but after this, I think we may have seen the last of him in the NHL.

Everyone knows someone like Mike Babcock. An awful human being who NEVER gets his/her comeuppance. We can hope / pray they change or we can hope for Karma. I'm good either way but I'm not holding my breath.

Reading your posts over the years, I know you are a very idealistic poster, MXD, and God bless you for it. If you want to believe he walked away with nothing, that's okay with me.

:)

His attorney likely would sign on and get a piece of the settlement/judgement. The Blue Jackets wouldn't be doing anything but paying an attorney.

Babcock has much more incentive to avoid a legal battle with an extensive and highly publicized discovery process that would overwhelmingly likely pull even more skeletons out of his closet and we start getting into Hockey Canada preemptively distancing themselves from him and a slam dunk HHOF blacklist instead of just a very likely one now.

Sounds like you've never been to court. (smile)

I am 100% sure they paid him to go away because that is how business works. But, if you want to believe otherwise, that's fine with me.

Ok but that’s a little different, asking his coaches to share a photo, then it is to say to a younger player “give me your phone” and proceed to scroll thru photos and texts and Snapchat messages for minutes at a time
That what you asked though, never heard of coaches being asked, and was answered.
