I have posted in other threads. I believe in rehabilitation over retribution. Did babcock any form of rehabilitation? From what I am reading it does not sound like it. Sounds like he falls under the cargoes "I learned from my mistakes" clearly he did not

you have to be a real moron to pull some psycho BS like this when you know you're already walking on eggshells to begin with due to your past history of abusive behavior. but even then, not being able to make it out of training camp is a real accomplishment. gotta hand it to babcock

amazing really

''Investigation by #NHLPA left no path for Babcock to continue as coach'' can be interpreted different ways.
???

Do tell how many alternate interpretations there are.
The sentence makes it very clear that the NHLPA realized that further investigation turned up information that changed their opinion on the situation.

I don't know if the alleged incident was really serious or not. But Babcock is just a lousy coach, either way. I said when CBJ hired him that I could name 30 better available coaches.

Rejoice, Columbus fans. You dodged a bullet.

"The NHLPA conducted an investigation and found no wrongdoing. They then conducted a better investigation and found him guilty."

That's what is being reported, yes. Waiting for the official statement. Do you understand?

I think CJ said the NHLPA technically has no jurisdiction in terms of forcing coaches to resign or being fired. They just present their findings to the NHL, then the NHL makes their decision. So it probably wasn’t the NHLPA that forced him to resign but rather league office or the Blue Jackets upper management.

This has been a whack story. I hope we get full details so HFB doesn’t start a civil war.

You won't ever. My guess is he accidentally revealed private details about a players life that shouldn't have been shared. So you won't hear details because of how private it is.

Some people have like anti-woke-derangement-syndrome where they can no longer view any news article under any other framing "woke or not", and if they don't like the article or if someone is getting in trouble it's automatically "woke" or cancel culture. They compulsively defend it without really knowing why. They constantly call everyone except themselves soft and sensitive, while simultaneously getting really mad that someone got in trouble for doing something wrong. It's wild they think there tough or whatever when you see the stuff that makes them rage.

Many fans simply do not have empathy for rich athletes.

Consent and privacy should be principles both sides of the political spectrum agree with.

People are still stuck thinking this was a young snowflake being triggered by Babs going, "gosh, that's wonderful. I'd love to see a picture of your family,"

It was pretty clear it was never that. ' it must be that ol'folksy Babcock' hypothesis always seemed pretty f***ing dumb.

Don't remember as close an analogy for The Scorpion and the Frog as this here. Unreal that he would do this.

I can’t help but shake my head at how the demand for scandals has run so far past the supply that THIS is what gets people frothing nowadays. No, I don’t think you should go through someone’s phone, but I also don’t think that’s an instant firing offense. Frankly I don’t blame Babcock for popping smoke and leaving if the organization wasn’t going to back him up on this.

I also wonder about the idea that any time a player, especially a young player is uncomfortable that means that a line has been crossed. People these days are uncomfortable leaving their house or answering the phone, the fact that they’re uncomfortable shouldn’t really be the line of what is appropriate or inappropriate conduct. I don’t blame a player for being uncomfortable with the biggest asshole in hockey going through their phone, I get that and think that does cross the line of what’s appropriate, but I also wince at how gleefully people throw Babcock under the bus and already have the torches out for Jarmo.

What a mess this might be for CBJ’s season, especially if this continues to circle around Jarmo, Jenner, and Gaudreau. I guess Fantilli will learn that the org has his back any time he’s uncomfortable (wish my Leafs hadn’t taken that path lol), but he might also see what this sort of thing means to a season. Is this level of discomfort worth creating a season long distraction? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe it’s over with Babcock being gone and this was the right call, but I’ll refer to the first line of my post when I say I doubt that.

Why does one idiot coach getting hired and fired, require a shutdown?
I don’t think they are talking about this specifically but they have done a lousy job the last 5 years or so. Like the whole Blackhawks drama was very embarrassing and they went without punishments and a first overall pick the same year they lost Toews and Kane. They are shit at marketing, game play (refs not being held accountable), repercussions, etc.

Pretty clear to anyone who used their heads. We've both been following this situation (and this thread), obviously there are quite a few posters / ppl that demonstrated (and continue to demonstrate) that they weren't / aren't able to do that

From my perspective as a Rangers fan because we were going through this coaching search too....the two guys I really didn't want were Babcock and Quenneville. To me there was just too much baggage and it's not that I was a big fan of the Laviolette hire. I would have gone in another direction but at least you kind of know what you're getting and that he's never had the personal baggage that the two above carried. I think most coaches are at least normal enough where they won't do the mind games that Babcock does or look the other way after a young player's been abused.

Jenner and Gaudreau...comments?
The charitable explanation that keeps Babcock as the villain is that Babs wowed them while screwing with the kids and they never heard any different, and so were responding based on their own experience. But that has me worried if the kids felt they couldn't go to Boone.

Stop it. They were never comparable, not today, not 5 years ago. Babs is gone. Because of an investigation, not because of this firestorm.
And, again, the response to Blue Jackets fans and the front office were such that it was indistinguishable. We had a near-constant feed of how Torts was the scum of the earth who hated everybody and abused and browbeat young players constantly and was a terrible person and how he proved the Blue Jackets were a trash organization and we were trash fans and et cetera et cetera et cetera. We knew Babcock was a new level of trouble, but given the number of times y'all kept crying wolf about the guy who ultimately became the best coach in our history (and some of y'all still do to this day), we opted to give him a chance that most of us didn't believe he actually deserved.

There are many teachable moments from this incident.

Listen to ex-players talk about Tortorella... then listen to ex-players talk about Babcock. What you will hear is night and day. Torts is tough, not the coach for everyone and can be emotional, but theres no denying that he cares about his players in every way.
And yet the negative stories about Torts were consistently amplified to degrees so high it was almost impossible to tell.

I mean, I'm glad that folks are finally starting to come around on Torts, but using that to justify a "and that's why you should have known all along and have only yourselves to blame" narrative towards Jackets fans is still kind of garbage.

How can a guy destroy his own reputation again and again? I can only imagine Kekäläinen's face when he first heard about the incident.
