That doesn't say anything. It doesn't say that it was a ''young'' player and it doesn't say how the ''looking'' was conducted. Who was holding the phone? ''Several minutes'' is also an extremely vague description.

That's not an acceptable source in any way.

Exactly, i might be wrong but there is a difference on saying "you suck on powerplay" to the shit Babcock does, at least a lot of players have said Tortorella might be a oldschool hockey asshole, he still has the players backs. I dont see why he is even brought up in this thread. It's one thing being an asshole, completely other being a weirdo.

So did the NHLPA investigation turn up evidence or is Babcock resigning because of the unsubstantiated spitting Chiclets podcast?

Bill Daley is not the PA, he is in fact as opposite as it gets from the NHLPA with being 2nd to Betman. What he says still doesn't mean they were anywhere close to stopping their investigation. And mods here close threads like this too soon all the time. There was one I pointed out, I forget about what over the summer where an agent made a b.s. claim and they took it as the word of mouth. But the reporter stuck to his guns and it came out as some truth, but we had to push to reopen that thread.

You or whoever, even said the NHLPA reached out to Biz and Whitney for their info. How is that stopping the investigation or the other guys pushing for it. It doesn't really matter, but some people are making this some battle that it isn't. But where battles do exist, is between the Player association or official league/team statements.

NHLPA dug deeper and found "no path for Babcock to continue" Biz's role in this ended on Sept 12 when he said he confirmed with a Columbus player that something manipulative went down. and for five days people shouted at each other that there was no evidence.
 
I’d really like to know exactly why he grabbed a phone to look at it. Could it be he was trying to coach and some young guy was on his phone ignoring him, so he thought he would make an example of him?? I don’t know the answer, does anyone?? I know in this modern entitled society people think that having their phone on them in the workplace is a right. It is not. In my workplace people are on their phones way to much when they should be paying attention and WORKING!! If I were NHL teams I’d be having the players leave the phone in the car and they could get them when the “job” is done and they leave the rink. No issues then

Has Babock let his success go to his head?

10 years ago virtually everyone considered him an amazing coach, then as soon as he goes to Toronto he decides he to do all these weird tactics like looking through phones or making Marner create player rankings.
 
So it sounds like Babcock held onto phones for longer than expected and implied invasion of privacy lmaooooooo

And people still want to give this guy the benefit of the doubt

Training camp has not even started. So, no, he wasn't trying to coach.

Was he really on such a short leash? Maybe the org demanded he stop being overly-personal like Jake and then he's like nah, that's my coaching style I'm out

Babcock has a degree in psychology. He has tailored his persona to appear chummy with the media by saying all the right things - "Good Pro", "Family Man", etc. This is a very clever and manipulative individual and I strong believe that he was looking for leverage on players. If a player had a wholesome family album on his phone, he enters Babcock's good books. If a player had a photo album full of partying, girls, memes, etc he would enter Babcock's dog house.

Babcock maybe a 'dinosaur' but he is a very smart and articulate individual. Sometimes his attempts to look modest give him away. I remember after Matthews scored his 40th and the Leafs made the playoffs in 2017 the camera zoomed in on Babcock and he had an angry look on his face, almost like he was disappointed Matthews scored. Babcock is ultimately all about himself.
