I mean, you started your last post with that and then proceeded on three paragraphs of "We don't really know if he did anything wrong".

Heaven forbid people respond to that.

I said we don’t know any of the details which was true when I made the post. A few minutes after the post Elliot Friedman made a tweet detailing one incident outside the area.

Y’all gotta chill.

"Strong message sent: Treat all players as you would in a proper workplace"

Proper workplace? A professional hockey team isn't a proper workplace? Perhaps not a typical workplace, but certainly a workplace where good behavior is kinda expected.

Hopefully this will end Babcock's career for good this time.

I think there is this clear idea among sports fans that "sports" aren't a job and professional players aren't employees.

It's why fans shit on players looking out for their own interests with their career despite fans doing the same thing with their careers.

I think we are seeing a lot of fans were not as pro-player as they liked to think.

I like the comments about no other coach gets fired for this

Probably because no other coach is this stupid
I mean, they're not wrong. A coach with a positive or even neutral reputation likely gets over this hump and keeps his job. But that doesn't make Babcock resigning the wrong move.

When you're handed a second chance and step on your dick this early, where exactly do you go from there?

The big scary tactics of Mike aren't working anymore... and I'd argue they've never really worked because I think he has had the teams to be able to win more than a single cup... but failed. I was surprised that Columbus decided to go with him in the first place. Doesn't seem like a good person and he's not a good coach either.
To be fair he's also an Olympic Gold Medalist, and yes that was an all time stacked roster but it also means Canada could have chosen any other superstar coach and they went with Babs. At one point in his career Babs was a premier hockey coach, but it was clear relatively quickly into his Toronto career the game and its players had passed him by

The whole "cancel culture" talk doesn't even make sense because fans mostly weren't scraming for Babcock to be fired. You had just as many fans trying to dismiss these allegations based on Spittin' Chicklets having a questionable reputation. There wasn't an outcry from fans or media for Babcock to be fired, just because of how much uncertainty there was with the accusations.

Again, this is a union protecting its members. This isn't cancel culture, this is the NHLPA defending NHL players from being mistreated by coaches.

The NHLPA was more than willing to abandon this investigation until the guys from Spitting Chiclets insisted this wasn't an isolated incident.

Welp. Trusted Jenner and Gaudreau's assessments, and the NHLPA's initial statement, and yet here's where we are now.

It's not Babs f***ing up that hurts. I was prepared for that; it would have been silly not to be. It's the cloud that this pulls over everyone else on the team and in the org.

* * *

That was the basis on which many of us were willing to give it a try. Kekalainen's taken wild risks before and seen most of them pan out. But this...
In fairness to those guys, Babs quite likely handled his meetings with them differently than with the younger players. Much of the player defenses of him came earlier anyhow.

He’s going to treat his vets with respect because they’re the people who’s jobs are always safer than his. Big money stars and captains. He wants them in his corner

If their very limited experience with him was positive, idk. I just don’t want to assume we know how much they knew

Say what you want about Babcock but he sure does know how to make $ while doing nothing. Second time he gets bought out and now he can go back to doing nothing and making millions doing so.

Probably needed to renovate his house or some shit, smart man.

This is probably getting lost in all of this, but I wonder if CBJ has an out not to pay him here? If the NHLPA found some seriously egregious dirt on the part of Babcock, I'm wondering if they have a way to backout of paying him with some sort of morality clause or something along those lines? Also wondering if him "resigning" makes a difference versus getting fired in that regard?

I'm not well versed in legalese or the CBA, but this isn't the traditional situation where a coach is let go due to poor results and track record.

If that's all you needed you had enough the other day after Russo and others confirmed reports that things weren't all okay.

You chose to wait until the "resigning" to switch tack

glad he's probably done as a HC, even though the NHL continues to be an old boys club. I think vincent will do a good job, but if he stumbles they'll have to clean house imo. What an epic f*** up of gross negligence by Jarmo and Davidson

Ultimately it didn’t matter whether this was true or not. Even if it wasn’t, and we may never know, there really was no way moving forward for Babcock. Everything he did would’ve been over analyzed and scrutinized from now on.

It’s also fair to start asking some tough questions of management too. Someone made the decision to release those statements from Babcock and Jenner, so quickly last week. So if these allegations were true, it’s fair to say more heads should roll… Not sure how they can’t at this point. Even if it was ownership who wanted a quick response, someone had to tell them there was nothing to see here….

I cannot see how Jarmo survives this.
I can. The owner doesn't want to totally nuke the organization 3 weeks before the start of the season. So Jarmo and JD will get to continue, and the owner is making a contingency plan. If the team doesn't take a major step, they are gone. If the team actually comes together and achieves something, maybe you hang on to them.

At least that's what I would do. I would tell JD and Jarmo that they are on a short and thin leash. A very short and thin leash.
