Because the NHLPA contacted them! They said so themselves. lol.
Whitney actually confirmed it on a podcast:
Starts at 46:30
After the CBJ players statement, the PA was texting Biz and Whitney saying well - they said it's a lie. Whitney and Biz had to tell the PA it's true and they had valid sources and then the PA started interviewing. They were ready to close the investigation.
Are we going to find out what actually happened? I hope so because there is a lot more going on than what we know.
Babcock has done the exact same thing in two previous teams. Then when he does it in 2023 he is forced to resign as to not be a distraction due to public outcry. The NHLPA contacted them because they were the source of the accusation. That doesn't magically mean the NHLPA was willing to abandon the investigation and it was just Spittin Chicklets that kept it alive.
Also, how is that cancel culture to begin with? My original point was that this didn't even remotely fall in "cancel culture".
I could be wrong but if you quit then you forfeit the salary owed to you. It’s probably what Davidson meant by still discussing the matter to get rid of him without paying him. It was the same thing with Peters. So does Babcock still get paid? How does that work?
So you're calling what would be actions of conducing and investigation considering closing an investigation?
There's such a weird pull some people are saying here trying to make up divisions and make this about some points that have nothing to do with. If you are some of the people here that think that, you're way too deep in some bubble of people and probably taking a few random people online as if they're a community.
The issue with John Tortorella was primarily his hardass nature and temper when things don't go his way, but he's still a professional. I don't look at John Tortorella and think "oh this guy is def gonna mind f*** his players."We'd previously hired a guy about whom similar stories were told and not only did he turn out to be much more of a generally decent person than advertised, he's still the winningest coach in franchise history. It's not unusual that folks here might get to thinking that It's All Just Paper Talk.
It worked the first time beyond anyone's wildest expectations, so he tried to catch lightning in a bottle twice.
I don't disagree. I wasn't in favor of giving Babcock the chance, but I was willing to give Kekalainen and Davidson the benefit of the doubt. The issue with John Tortorella was primarily his hardass nature and temper when things don't go his way, but he's still a professional. He doesn't have a toxic reputation (at least that I know of) where his former players actively speak out against him, the same way that Mike Babcock has. In fact, I think there's only the Dubois thing that was "controversial"? Aside from that, players from CBJ, NYR, TBL still speak fondly of him. Meanwhile, we have a whole horde of players that have spoken out about what a gigantic asshole Babcock is.
