But he would be handy to have around now...I just don't like that we essentially gave him away because Babcock didn't like him for some reason.

I disagree. Sometimes you owe it to a player to give him a chance somewhere else if it's clear he's never gonna get a shot on your team and he's put in the time. I'm not convinced Keefe would have him on our roster either. That's how deep we are at forward.

Seeing this thread title still brings a smile to my face. Babcock fired, how sweet it is. Take a moment and try to imagine where we'd be if he was still the coach, that should help anyone who isn't appreciative and thankful for where this team is at today.

I don't really want to argue with you Gary but I can't help but feel that you used to be a pretty big Babcock fan. The thing is, some of us knew that he was a bad coach for this team from day one and caught a lot of flack for it. Then he came dead last in his first season and yet there were tons of you who still loved him. It's now only in hindsight and a bad start to this season that you finally figured him out. BUT he never changed. He was the exact same coach his entire term here.

When Babcock was hired, myself along with countless others were ecstatic. Even more so when we came last because everyone knew a real tank was needed. also the team look respectable while doing it. plenty of one goal close games, and a point total of 69. which was more than the year we drafted Marner.

I was a pretty big Babcock fan as well, doesnt mean opinions cant change as time goes on.

Nothing to argue about, I was thrilled when he was hired. The entire organization was basically a gong show when he arrived and the best thing about him was that he brought some credibility to the franchise. At the time, he was exactly what we needed and his hiring was a coup of sorts. He also did a good job for the first couple of years, he said the right things (which was more important for us at the time then it usually is) and he did mostly the right things as well. You say he never changed, OK maybe he didn't, I'm not going to argue the point because I really don't care. If he didn't then it's just that his style was good for us when he arrived but we got to the point where that was no longer the case.

P.S. Not that it's important but I think he maybe did change in the sense that his ego got out of control. I mean sure it was always there and always big but ... it got out of control. Or maybe he always thought he was more important than the anyone in the organization or even the organization as a whole not sure, I'm just glad he's gone.

Fair enough, I just hope that he doesn't coach team Canada again.

Eh, he's done a good job there too but I understand the sentiment and I think next time they'll go with someone else. I don't care much myself TBH, international hockey isn't anywhere close to what it used to be.

Even if we still have crappy defense atleast we are developing a style that if we perfect we could be champions. I never think Babcock was capable of change like that. Do you guys kind of understand what i'm saying?

Plus Babcock hasn't won **** when he hasn't had a roster stacked from top to bottom.
How many coaches have won without stacked rosters? Pretty small list as far as I can tell. Babcock was also one of the biggest reasons (outside of Giguere) Anaheim went to the finals. When you look at that roster, you'd be hard pressed to predict a playoff appearance from them.

I get what you're saying and I think most people here would agree - Babcock is possibly the most stubborn coach in NHL history and he insisted on doing things his way and ONLY his way.

I'd go so far as to say that if I had to pick one coach to get an unexpected result out of a scrappy group of outgunned underdogs with over a short-ish period of time Babcock might be that guy.

Yes, we will win lots of 8-6 and 6-4 games. Good stuff. We are ready for a deep playoff and/or Cup run.

Time to get over Babcock. This thread needs to die.

I don’t know about that. I still get a warm feeling inside my stomach every time I see this thread. I do agree there is nothing left to discuss but a periodic bump every couple of months is nice just to remind us what was lol

Probably.

I hadn't thought of Babcock until I saw Hyman on the ice Saturday with the Goalie pulled.
Funny how many lost their minds when Babcock would throw him out there.

To be fair he has improved as a player quite a bit since Babcock started doing that with him, but atleast the progression of Hyman is one of the positive things we can say about his time here.

Do you mean the progression of the 40 point guy who's gotten to play with superstars on the top line for his entire career? One of Babcock's greatest blunders was giving Hyman top line minutes and I expect Keefe will fix that once we are healthy.

Hyman doesn't have the sexy point production so he's not as appreciated by some.

Yes. And who knows, but I don't have a problem with him there anymore. Infact it's far from a problem.
