Under my preferred lottery system I'd still be in favor of an "Edmonton Rule"; something like "no team can win the lottery more than twice in a five year period."
You mean the "New Jersey" rule?

Under my brilliant draft lottery system :D, rebuilding through the draft by trading current assets for future assets would still occur. Thus, some GMs (like ours) would acknowledge that they are not expecting to field a playoff roster. However, there would be no additional incentive to be "league-worst." Fans would not actively root for their team to lose (like some on here are.) I think I am looking at the big picture. The current system creates an unhealthy fan environment.
I think losing year after year after year after year is what creates an unhealthy fan environment. Tanking, particularly when there are franchise players available, is one of the few ways a team can crawl their way out of the basement. Even then it's still enough of a long shot that only desperate teams would do it intentionally. I don't know why we should try to stick it to already desparate teams. Focusing on removing a teams ability to tank will at best prolong rebuilds and at worst accelerate success for teams that were already on the cusp of it. Sure it's great if the super teams (which that system absolutely would create) happens to be your team but it'd suck for most everyone else. It'd also give large market teams yet another advantage.

Isn't that what the board of governors enacted in 2021?

"Limits on lottery wins. Beginning this season, no team will be able to move up the draft board by winning a lottery more than two times in a five-year period. In the last decade, the Edmonton Oilers, New Jersey Devils and Buffalo Sabres have won lotteries for the first overall pick multiple times in five-year spans.""
Edmonton has moved up from 3rd and 2nd. NJ has been the real winner.

Saw this awhile ago, kinda fits present discussion here:

"Teams are only allowed to improve their positioning via the Lottery twice in a five year period (beginning with the 2022 Lottery)".

Under the new rules, NJ can only win the lottery 1 more time in the next 4 drafts. Montreal retained their pick in 2022 so that does not count as a lottery win.

I think Dragicevic > Brandt Clarke

and I think he's our guy with the Ott pick. We would have been giddy to get Clarke and two 2nds for Chychrun.

I think that in the Crosby era, the Penguins have a notably better record without him than with him.

Like Crosby, Chychrun is a great player (calm down, I didn't say he's equally great). There's some sort of psychological effect on team mates when they know they have to step up to fill a void.

Without any lottery luck the Coyotes currently hold picks 7 and 11.

Ottawa’s next 5 games: PIT, BOS, TPA, NJD, FLA.

Might be looking at two top 10 picks this time next week.
We’ll stroll into the lottery with 7th and 9th. The 8th team will win and bump us down to 8th and 9th. Question is, will Benson and Reinbacher fall past 7th?

You have it all wrong. We get picks 1 and 11.

I don't disagree but it really helps greatly when you have an Evgeni Malkin! I remember the year Crosby missed most of the season, Malkin went absolutely nuts. Dude is already amazing but I think he'd have been even greater had he went to a team where he was the guy.

RT would have made him look like a 30th OA player, plummeting his value and allowing us to resign him at a much more reasonable long term rate. Would have been the only positive coming from the RT era, and of course we missed it.
Nyah… I think he would’ve been good no matter what Tocchet did

Yeah I would've LOVED to see an alternate future where WSH and PIT swapped picks so Ovi would played his career alongside Sid and Geno would've been the man in Washington his whole career.

Oh well. At least we have EA Franchise mode

In my alternate universe Crosby, Ovy and Malkin are all on different teams, ideally at least one of them is on a Western conference team.
