Hey Chayka427. Didn't you also say he would be going to a contender where the GM is on the hot seat? You said TO and Oilers, and that he wouldn't be going to a team out of the playoffs?
Correct, playoff teams were the only teams that could possibly pay the price of 2 firsts and a prospect. The lower price opened the door for others. One first and parts made it more reasonable for Ott, and I also thought the 2 firsts from LA and one of their top prospects was a pipe dream.

anyone catch BA on PHNX this afternoon? Is it just me or did it seem like we were going to flip Chychrun for just the 12th ov pick last year? Did anyone else interpret what BA was saying to mean this?

Haven’t listened yet, but I guess they must’ve been hoping for Geekie there. So, if you’re correct, they were trying to trade Chychrun for Geekie?

Certainly possible. Starts roughly at 14:52 mark. He offers a comparison to an offer on the table last year to this year's trade. "Not only this range (11-15), but also two seconds..."

I like Geekie, but if we traded chych last summer for just the 12th pick and then picked Geekie I would’ve been really disappointed.

There’s a good chance the prospect we get with Ottawa’s pick is a better prospect long term than Geekie

BA: Listen we had a deal on the table a year before from a team that was interested in chych at the draft and the biggest thing, the best, was somewhere between 12 and 15. ... Thats what we could get last year. Now we can not only get this range 11-15 but also get two seconds.

My scuffed transcript but yeah I agree with your assessment.

I was distracted but that was my original interpretation and it looks like others have confirmed. Wow. They must love Geekie.

If it was Chychrun straight up for Geekie last year isn't that essentially Chychrun for 12th, 27th, 34th, and 45th as that was the give for the Geekie pick. Or am I punch drunk on this?? So reality if its Chychrun for Geekie pick we would still have had 27, 34, and 45 which might be same

He REALLY tripled down on the whole not taking back money because he want to use it but assets. There’s no way he’s lying about that. If he was, he’d do it a little more quietly and a little more vague.

Early on he said other teams wanted them to take back 11 mil to 3.1mil. I don't remember if those were the exact numbers but he was weirdly specific and I assume he meant dollars not cap.

Growing consternation about Arizona’s roster? They aren’t even in last place.
What they say about the cap is true, but they don't really know why the Coyote's are doing it. All they can think of is what happened in the past. They didn't mention Chicago once. I don't like what the teams are doing, but they are playing within the rules. The NHL and the PA should have changed the rules the year Tampa pulled their stunt.

Friedman seems to just be getting on the "Hate the Coyotes" bandwagon that Mark Lazerus just drove screaming through the streets yesterday. At this point, I'm starting to think it's time to just ignore all non-market media until May 16.

that's the frustration I have. Talk about the age of the roster. The number of players on entry level deals. Talk about how Chicago actually has similar type money in dead cap than AZ.

If Tampa was some "number 1 bullshit" then this is "number 2 bullshit". We should have shirts.

Mark Lazerus wrote a whole article about how evil and pathetic the Coyotes are for their dead cap money - just an absolute over-the-top rant - and then at the end added a parenthetical paragraph saying that even though Chicago's dressing room is more hopeless than ours and Chicago has taken on equal amounts of contractual deadweight, at least their overpaid cap-relief players can actually play (albeit, he fails to mention, they play terribly, which is the franchise's intent in order to be the absolute worst possible team they can be), whereas ours - who don't interact with our young players or even live in Arizona (!) - aren't in a position to affect our team's game in any way.

It was an absolute masterclass in hyperbolic hypocrisy, and I'm sure Lazerus is getting brownie points aplenty from all the traditionalists and Main Board denizens for it. From a peer perspective, though, I have to say it was a shittily-reasoned and -written piece of editorial larceny.
