Kenny, that’s not how I read it. See below.

2023 NHL Draft Lottery Odds | Tankathon
I think that’s based off of current standings, no? So if the season ended today, we would be picking 13th overall. Depending on how the next 12 games go for Ottawa, we could see that pick drop positions.

Basically, we have to root for them to lose, but hope they stay out of the top five and/or hope they don’t win a lottery

Overall, I think is some pretty creative manuvering.

My question is this: for those disappointed in the return, would you trade it for any of the other packages moved this deadline?

Can't really answer until I see where that '23 1st ends up being. If BA's gamble pays off and it's a top 10 then I'm happy with the trade. If Ottawa makes the playoffs, or worse ends up with a top 5 pick, then I'm not so thrilled with this trade at all.

Ekholm got 1st, 1st (Reid Schaefer), 4th
Meier got 1st, 1st, 1st (Mukamuldullin, spelling?), Zetterlund (4th equivalent?), 7th
Jeannot got 1st (Foote), 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th

Chychrun is probably the 4th best deal so I don't know...I think everyone was just hoping for more.

Hopefully we get our own version of a Stutzle/Sanderson first round.

Anyone have one of those fancy strength of schedule/P%/remaining games thingy maggigies? How’s Ottawa liokin’

I'm a huge fan of Mads Soogard but he's not going to Hamburgler them into the playoffs. Two of Isles, Pitt, Sabres will take those last 2 spots.

Foote probably couldn’t get a 2nd on the market. And tampas picks are LATE.

Agreed. Even not counting the prospects as firsts Meier got 2 actual firsts. Shit Jeannot got a 1st and a 2nd. If you consider the unspellably named prospect San Jose got Schaefer, and Foote as 2-3 rounders in value they're still very close to what Chychrun returned or close.

Even if you like the Chychrun package more, Chychrun was the most valuable piece by far and doesn't have by far the best return.

This, for example, the difference is a 3rd, 4th, and 5th. But I would not trade Ottawa's 1st rounder for Tampa's 1st rounder plus those 3 picks.
yeah, I was looking at it...and it's a toss up for me.

The reason why I say that, is that Buffalo got Kulich at #28 (I had him inside top 15) and we got Geekie at #11 and I'd trade Geekie straight up for Kulich right now, so even though Ottawa has the better picks, I like having more darts to throw at the board.

Lot of folks in that main trade board thread whose mama never taught em not to kick a man while they're down.

Classless. Not to mention some real bad juju.

Ottawa has the 5th most difficult schedule remaining. Yotes 16th.

Dipping into the main boards was an eye sore. Much like a lot of things involving the Coyotes, I believe understanding this deal requires nuance, which is lost on those who can't comprehend beyond a headline.

No matter what we got as a return we knew the main boards would be declaring victory for the acquiring team within the hour. That’s normal.

BA set expectations high. 2x1sts and a 2nd. He settled for a really good first (potentially) and 2x2nds. Unless u follow the draft names you may bot understand how sharp the difference is between a player taken 10-15 compared to 25-32 u look at this as just that. Settling for less than desired value. I’m optimistic because i watch the prospects closely. I have a list forming and i like the names. We always want more though. That’s human nature. Expectations were high. BA has to live with that. This is the return that everyone will judge him on. No pressure on nailing that pick.

You're not wrong, the difference is that BA kept saying that his minimum was two 1st, 2nd equivalent and we took less, which is why most are unhappy with the deal, especially with other deals for Ekholm, Jeannot and others

Based on current standings the Sens pick is almost for sure from 10-18 so question:

Is there any pick/player out there that one of the contending teams for Chychrun would have realistically given up that has more individual value than that pick?
For me it's not about just this pick, it's the total package. I always wanted and I thought achievable, a pick in the teens, another late first or prospect, and some kind of prospect. I guess I was wrong.
