THIS.

Bill Armstrong wanted 2 1sts and a second. He got a 1st and 2 seconds, but the first is from Ottawa and is currently 13th in a very deep draft (will probably end up 10-15OA, that is a GOOD asset). Imo he clearly got his ask. Even though he probably overplayed his hand / likely could've gotten more with all these insane packages that have been flying around.

This is what I was going to say. A month ago we wer talking about 2 Boston or Toronto 1sts and I was not thrilled about that. At All. Two is not better than one necessarily.
I'm not one bit upset. Last year when we were talking about getting a haul from Florida I said several times to put yourself in the chair of an opposing GM and pay that for an often injured Chchrun. I wouldn't pay that for him and found out recently that nobody else would either. Now we get a guy in that 11-14 range. That's a great pick in '23. I'm glad it's over and we have Ottawa's pick, and not Boston's.
Give BA credit for trying. Not the end of the world, The June draft just got a lot more fun.

Yes I forgot about this. It's potentially a huge loss for all owners

Im so confused. I thought it's just the top two picks in the lotto
My bad. 13 or 14 in 2023 or <5% chance 2024 unprotected

Plus we get to cheer for a group of about 5 teams in The east to win to pass Ottawa in the standings.

I’m watching Moose Jaw play Brandon as i type this. Yager scouting.

Hold I’m confused. What if they finish in the range of 6th-15th and don’t move spots?
Then that's our pick.

I hope Ottawa goes on a winning streak of all winning streaks.

Based on current standings the Sens pick is almost for sure from 10-18 so question:

Is there any pick/player out there that one of the contending teams for Chychrun would have realistically given up that has more individual value than that pick?

For everyone pissing about the "We have no money".... you are all ignoring the elephant in the room.

Come May 19th if TED passes Meruelo has a $40 million payment he has to make up front before he can put one shovel into the ground. That $40 million is not refundable. Then spend another $600-800 million over the following 4 years to get a new arena built.

That is the single most important thing right now for the future of the franchise so if it means he has to keep tight reins on the budget for while so be it.

I’m just hoping this is a good indication that they feel it will pass

Not sure why some of you are freaking out. The gamble he took on getting a top 10/15 pick is totally worth giving up a couple picks in the late 20's. Forget the money retention stuff. The difference between those late 20's and 2nd round picks we got instead isn't huge compared to that OTT first. Well worth the gamble especially when you look at OTT's odds to make the playoff's and win the lottery. I like our chances of getting that pick even with the fact that we're the Coyotes and our odds at everything hocky blow.

Ottawa is 6 out of the first wildcard with 4 games in hand on the Isles, is 6-3-1 in their last 10 and playing very well. There is a really good chance Chycrun is a player that puts them over the top and at least into the playoffs although likely only for one round.

There’s a big jumble of other teams in a similar spot Ottawa also has to outperform besides the Islanders for that last playoff spot.

Was busy all day so missed this noise

So depending on what kinda draft pick value analysis you buy into of course:
If this pick ends up where the Sens are now, we're looking at 12/13/14/15 or whatever.

The average slot value of those picks are these comps:
Jamie Oleksiak
Chris Higgins
Dmitry Kulikov
Radek Faksa

Not exactly murderers row.

Slot value of firsts falls precipitously after 9OA thereabouts. Sure you most likely get a good player but you do not most likely even get someone approaching a Chychrun level replacement.
If this pick ends up somehow 6-9 we got a good deal. Anything worse is mediocre at best value. Sure our scouts could turn #15 into #5 value if we're lucky. Does this franchise strike you as lucky?
Maybe the draft really is as good as they say (it could also not be). But you can spare me the maybes on this one, I'm talking generalities here and on the averages we did not do very well here at all.

At least it's a f***ing 2023 pick lol.

Armstrong is kind of sucking at his job so far. Of course there is nothing I can do about that other than whine.
Maybe the honeymoon around here will end a bit . Sucking is probably a step or two too far but yeah.
I've been pretty critical tbh since at least last tdl. I don't think he's doing poorly but he doesn't deserve the semi-cult of personality he had at least prior to today either. There's a whole lot of If X/Y/Z falls into place stuff will finally get better around here. I don't like the odds.
I can appreciate that people seem to prefer his roster construction and at least has a vision / plan that's more coherent thant Chayka's randomness the last couple seasons. But actual results are still very much in doubt. We get the usual refrain of "trust the scouts" (which everyone said last regime too) and "really they're good this time" RE: the scouting staff. I think it's possible, but I'm definitely not convinced.

I’d say the difference between the ask and the return is due to Chychrun’s history of injuries. I’m content and I’m hoping Michkov drops to that 2 nd pick.

What is concerning is that those 2nd's are in 2024 and 2026
