If this guy is playing in Europe next season, will he even attend Avalanche training camp this fall???

So it seems he was confirmed to stay in NA, but to answer this in general: It is normal for players to attend training camp and then go back to Europe if they don't make the NHL team.

Dater and his "intel". I mean I would've expected him to play in Sweden, too. I bet he just talked to some friend about it and they agreed like "I'd expect him to still play in Sweden for a year or two", and Dater tweeted it as a report.
It's become painfully clear this guy has zero legitimate sources. He's late or flat out wrong on nearly everything he says. This is the dude that tweeted that Kroenke wanted to move the arena to commerce city because he heard it from a construction worker. He's an embarrassment.

I get he has some personal issues, but he should just move on from covering this team. He brings nothing of relevance to the table unfortunately.

The sad thing is he does have sources. He’s been on the beat 25 years, of course he has some connections. Just 99% of the time he refuses to use them and either steals from fans digging up information or just fills in the blanks with his own assumptions. The lazy coverage of this team is pathetic and we deserve better.

Anyway, it would be nice to have Oskar close and I can watch him more but I don’t love starting his clock this early. If they have a plan to use him quickly, great if not then sitting around for years for an opportunity doesn’t do anyone any favors.

He could still go to the OHL or I guess as someone suggested earlier a ploy to get him loaned to a SHL club? But the Avs really aren’t that creative.

This team is going to be desperate for contributors on ELC's so this move shouldn't really surprise us. Will they possibly Jost a prospect because of it? Certainly possible.

So if he starts with the Eagles does that burn a year of his ELC?

Seems like an incredibly dumb decision if they go that route.

Bringing him to NA is really surprising and I wonder what changed considering that didn't seem like the plan on draft night. At least from the player's perspective this didn't seem like an option at the time. Not sure how to feel about it either considering another year (or more) in Sweden would probably be good for him.

No it doesn’t. He’s in the exact same contract situation (and probably situation overall) as Kaut. So they get a 5 year ELC out of it. Unless of course he gets enough NHL games to burn the contract the first two years of it.

They are not forced to using ELCs at all. Their AHL signings are cheaper than ELCs. Playing Sikura or Sherwood over anyone with an ELC saves them money.

Thanks for the clarification. :thumbu:

Whatever gets him out of that league he played last year is ok with me.

Well he played in 3 leagues last year including the SHL, Allsvenskan, and J20.

It sounds like there’s a chance that if he’d stayed at HK71 he would have been hard pressed for playing time as they are looking to bounce back immediately after being relegated and have put together a very strong team for a 2nd tier team and may not have wanted to play him a ton if it would be any risk to their promotion so coming to NA could be a little with that in mind.

I think this is good and one of the advantages of drafting players out of Europe. He can go to camp and be assessed by management to see if he's ready for AHL. If not, he can play in the OHL for a season and not be under the normal CHL agreement rules so he can play in the AHL earlier than if he'd been drafted out of OHL. And as mentioned, his ELC can slide for 2 yers, even if he plays in AHL.

Allsvenskan and J20 are perfectly good leagues for draftees and +1's. Allsvenskan is among the best 2nd tier pro leagues in Europe.

Allsvenskan is the perfect development league.

That’s all well and good.

I’m sure the Allskesnkavn is a nice league, but he needs to go to Barrie.

A season in the OHL will give the kid what he needs.

I'm sure it'll be so beneficial he'll just come back as Oscar O'Lawson from Peterborough.

I think these moves are generally really good, just saying that he's been playing pro hockey.

We know that the Avs, honest or not, had this guy ranked higher than where they selected him. Perhaps they believe he's capable of playing in a better league immediately instead of playing another season in the 2nd tier Swedish league.

I figured that would have meant finding a way to get him onto an SHL team full time, but I guess they'd prefer him closer to Denver. Wouldn't surprise me to see him playing for the Eagles. I'm not so sure how good that will be for him.

I also feel the plan is AHL, unless he’s just not ready. OHL would be kinda disapointing as it is a lower level than what he played last year.
