I can understand the Avs taking a low-risk chance but please don't make him into what he hasn't been.
He has scored 10 measly goals in his last 136 regular season games.
That represents 1.6M$ US per goal scored.
If that sums up as not having trouble scoring, I don't know what to say.
Wrong year
Yeah Drouin's goal scoring has been horrendous. I should've clarified that I meant point scoring.
Even with the abysmal goal output, he's still managed 72 points over the past three seasons (in 136 GP; basically a 43 point player over a full 82).
This is where I seen him reverse hit someone I guess, Mooseheads
The idea he has to earn it over anyone is hilarious.
dude.
I like the low risk contract, but as a Habs fan, I'm not particularly excited about Drouin with the Avs.
The way I am choosing to conceptualize the signing is that he is a cheaper version of Malgin. At worse, he will play the same role as Malgin, someone who Bednar doesn't trust with a lot of ice, but can chip in some offense in the bottom 6. Of course, if he truly hits, we are going to get a very cap efficient contract.
J'ai le feu au cul !You guys should start learning Quebec swear words right now, you're most likely gonna need them by October. lol
Jokes aside, good luck on the acquisition, he has had a personal tough run.
MacK hates him for having sugar in his diet. That shit's gotta stop.
I want this.I remember that shift. That was on heavy rotation in his draft year.
He's certainly in pole position for a top 6 role...we just saw last year in the playoffs what happens when you don't have enough skill in the forward lines...but Bednar isn't one to just hand out ice time. If he does what needs to be done to make that line effective, he'll stick, otherwise Bednar will try the other options for sure.
Good point, he's basically the Malgin replacement, but with more upside if he clicks on the team.
Malgin was more of a goal scorer but they have a similar role as a smaller skilled winger that likes to handle the puck.
Find somebody who smiles at you the way Drouin smiles at MacK and never let them go.

Its up there with Duchene and Wheeler I think.I'm excited about this signing. I'm glad (and also not surprised) that they consulted Mack before making this move. This contract has the potential to end up being the most lucrative in the NHL as far as $$ per points is concerned. Very low risk/reward ratio.
I just don't think this team should really have a "Malgin role", I guess. If that's the way it goes, fine, but I wouldn't be shocked to see him get benched when he makes his third insanely bad defensive play in as many games. He's going to be this forum's whipping boy (or at least competing with Wood for that role).
Averaging a 43 point pace, while most players get a bump in production on the Avs, at $850k sounds like it could be a pretty good deal.
Goal scoring is a concern but if he can stick in the top six, and plays with Nate, then Nate might score 60 if he lets Jo do all the playmaking. And Jo will put up good numbers doing it.
If he's been skating well like mentioned, I like his chances. He's got the IQ. He's got the skill. If he's still skating well, then it's just consistency that could keep him from being a solid contributor.
I really like the chances in general of Nate being able to motivate guys like Drouin and RyJo. He's not the kind of guy that lets lazy play or not being committed off ice slide.
I feel like Nate may be on a mission to prove his and the team's worth again this year too, similar to how his mindset was in the Cup year. Very few athletes are as competitive as he is and that brings out the competitiveness in others too.
Also if this works out, there’s gonna be so many Avs fans in Halifax for nostalgic reasons. The Moosheads have a pretty good history. Giggy is god there. He and Tangs were there together and then once Giggy finished, Tangs was god. I know a guy pretty well who played on that team that hosted the MEM Cup in like 99 or 2000) and the city was nuts. Ramzi Abid and Brandon Reid were the monsters then. Then Reid played world juniors. Eventually a year or two later they host the world juniors which was probably even crazier than it was this year despite the result (the tootoo train at the metro centre is an all time memory)
There’s a huge history of junior hockey in the region. Specifically in the late 90’s and early 00’s, yet that period of fun in Halifax doesn’t compare to what Nathan Mackinnon and Jonathan Drouin meant to the city in their tenure. If that magic gets re-created those it’s going to be a lot of fun for all us Moose Maniacs (iykyk)
