Confirmed with Link: Avs sign Jonathan Drouin (1 year, 825k)

I'm not even sure the avs would be smart to re-sign Drouin to anything substantial. Very much a product of this environment. If he wants to stay happy, winning, producing, etc he can sign a sweetheart deal - a modest raise from what he's making now. I don't think I'd go over 2m/year and 2-3 years max. If that doesn't get him signed then good luck with your new club

The messed up and somewhat distorted thing about this is that its a possibility that some of these guys are buoyed by playing with very expensive players.

Its nice that theyre productive but this stat possibly shames more expensive players who in some cases might be helping them with this stat.

His play has slipped a little, starting a little bit before the All Star break. Still doing some good things out there, he's just not executing as well on his passes and shots.

No big deal if he can find a level in between now and what he was at before.

Also interesting that in seemingly every game, someone from the opposition really tries to abuse him or rough him up, even though he's not doing anything to deserve it.

Think teams realize how effective he's been, and are trying to get him off his game. Might be working. He's gonna have to keep battling through it. Maybe he can draw some penalties from it.

You might have a point here. We have been playing quite a few eastern teams lately. They know him a lot more than in the west so they probably know how to play him. Like you said if true he will need to play through it.

Agree with this but have also noticed he’s been gettting the puck more in tight spaces because Nate is passing it to him on zone entries with very little space between he and Nate. And because of it, he’s getting smothered along the wall. It seems like the spacing needs to be better.

It's a bit crazy how well he plays. Forechecking, backcheking, wins board battles, good away from the puck...

One could argue that his offensive stats don't do him justice. He's like the opposite of the guy we thought we were getting.
His work along the boards on the lehky goal didn't result in a point but that goal doesn't happen without him. Sadly, he's played himself off the team. He can and should be trying to get the biggest bag this summer.

We'll see. A lot of it will come down to

1. How much does he enjoy playing here with his friend Mack and how well he fits in this system.

2. How scared other teams will be to offer him big money thinking he's a product of the Avs system and playing with his buddy. Teams might be scared off by what happened in Montreal with his mental health etc.

Here's to hoping he is happy with the cash he has made and at this point of his career is looking for for other things. Mainly enjoying his new found success and playing with MacK. Wouldn't be the first guy to take a 50% pay cut to enjoy life in the NHL. It's not frequent happening but it's not like it doesn't happen.

$2-2.5mil x 3 would be a nice deal. We obviously couldn't offer him more.

Should be the opposite of a bad thing that he addressed his mental health issues and grew to move past them. Only scares ignorant people.

I'd bet a lot of money there is a 4x4 contract offer waiting for him this Summer from some team.
I'm sure there will be. At that same time though he has mentioned at least once in his past that he contemplated hanging it up cause it wasn't fun. I could easily see him taking half or a little more than half of that with term to stick around and play with MacK.

Maybe. Or he signs with any other U.S based team to avoid the limelight of the Canadian market. He only has a short window to make NHL money.

True, but the average NHL GM out there aren't the most new age modern thinkers. There's a lot of old school GMs who will most definitely take that into consideration.

Here it is:

Also shows that Jo-Mack-Lehky can still make an excellent line leaving Nuke-Mitts-Rantanen as a very strong 2nd.

Not only that but Drouin and Mitts is more of the same...not sure it can work. Rants should definitely play on the 2nd line but it's Bednar, so we know Rants will be stapled to Mack no matter what.
