Would prefer a top 6 winger+ or an equal defenseman coming back. However I don't want to trade Barrie, but IF we did, I'd prefer to trade him for a forward and than a forward for a defenseman or something of the sort.

Well, we have JVR. If he works, what's the plus?

How in the world is Rantanen an untouchable but not Mackinnon????

If the Avs were really willing to trade him I would offer anyone on the Leafs not named Matthews.

Either you are drastically undervaluing Mackinnon or drastically overvaluing Rantanen. Mackinnon is only 14 months older and is easily the better piece, now and future, not close.

Not sure. Mack, Rantanen, and Zadorov are my only untouchables technically speaking. Landeskog is too probably, but I'd listen to calls on pretty much everyone other than them.

Now with more snark
So let me see if I understand, its a fire sale, where nothing is really on sale. Were not even 25% in and you have a new coach, patience. There will be plenty of time in January to start selling pieces that you determine that you don't need.

That is far from certain at this point. Avs have high hopes for Rantanen and despite being pointless he's apparently played quite well. MacKinnon seems to be the opposite - he puts up enough points to keep you hoping and plays quite badly. And this is the 3rd year in a row.

Believe me, I was singing MacKinnon's praises to the heavens after the 2014 playoffs. He worked out with Crosby that summer, put on a ton of muscle, and has never really been the same nor does he appear to be progressing into anything resembling an elite player.

What would it take for the Jackets to acquire Duchene? Is there any interest in one of Ryan Murray, David Savard or Jack Johnson? Obviously the Jackets add to one of those players. Really anyone is on the table other than Werenski, Dubois, Jones and Saad.

So Matt Duchene for lesser pieces that don't fill a need for the Avs? Gee where do the Avs sign?!

Jack Johnson could be had for peanuts...he isn't going to return a Duchene type of player.

Eberle + Caleb Jones + 2017 1st for Landeskog?

Poolparty for Landy is a better basis imo.

Given the chemistry that RNH and MacK had..curious what Oil fans would want in return for him. Barrie/Landy (one or the other) with some small plusses to balance value be an interesting conversation?

Yeah, up until lately I had zero interest in RNH on the Avs, and now it kind of intrigues me. I don't know what the Oilers would want in return, but I like the idea of being able to shift either Duchene or Mackinnon or both to the right wing for good.

As long as Duchene is still taking faceoffs...

I agree. RNH and Mack looked REALLY good at the WC together, would like to see if they could continue that.
