The thing is it’s possible for us to find a 2C and have Ritchie develop into a 2C. The two aren’t mutually exclusive and we have other assets (Byram, 2024/25 first, Behrens, Gulyayev) that can also be used to help acquire a help now 2C. It somewhat boils down to where the Avs believe they have the most depth and who they project to be a better long term help for the team.

If the team thinks that with the up and coming prospects on LHD and the instability with Byram that it might be better to reallocate there, I think it might be a feasible alternative route to trading Ritchie.

The caveat to that is that they might still need to move out salary in Manson, Girard, or both. Part of it is injury history. Part of it is NMCs. And part of it is making space. They might want to hang on to a couple of young guys.

Sure, but that’s the caveat to any trade. In the instance or trading Bo we’re likely helping aleviate some cap pressure. Trading Ritchie doesn’t help with that at all

Ritchie will not help us in this current cup window (this year and next). But, he might help us contend after we've hit the Cap Wall in two years. We'll likely have a drop and then they'll try to tweak and remain relevent for a while. That's where he could be usefull. You don't sacrifice the current cup window for a maybe later, but if you can get the help you need now without sacrificing him, that would be a Win-Win.

I'd be careful about trading potential el contracts of kids who can actually play. The cap may not be going up as much as people think due to the collapse of the RSN model. Revenue streams (no pun intended) are still up in the air for many teams in the league. The relative continuation of cap tightness makes these contracts golden.

I'm for finding alternate options for acquiring a 2C, WITHOUT losing Ritchie. Let him develop in our system. He was arguably a top-10 pick his draft year if he didn't have the shoulder injury.

Ritchie is not lazy. He hustles, he forechecks, he backchecks, he works to get the puck back, he battles in the corners. He’s not prime Nichushkin or anything but there’s a reason why Ritchie drives the bus not only for his linemates who are having excellent seasons now and is a difference maker for the whole team who has taken a massive step forward since his return. It’s not because Ritchie is feathering pretty passes from the perimeter. Most of his goals are net front rebounds, he’s usually not trying to wire the puck from the circles.

He seems to be winning more board battles and going to tough areas more. Hopefully playing with good two-way board fighting wingers helps pull that into his game even more at the pro level.

Calum Ritchie has been lightning hot since returning from injury with 41 points in 25 games, proving why he was selected in the first round despite many ranking him lower.

I know he was injured but didn't know he was a reach at #27.
That’s completely not true, Bob had Ritchie ranked 21 on his final list. He was expected to go in the early 20s at the latest.

Only 11 of his points have come on the power play, fun fact.

And then next year everyone would be talking about how the Avs helped the Wild rebuild like people are saying the Kings gave the Jets new life. There's a reason you don't make big trades in division.
They can say whatever they want after watching us lift the Cup again.
