Prospect Info: Avs draft F Calum Ritchie (2023 #27 overall)

To be fair he got really sick with long Covid.

I remember the pre-draft hype (even though he fell on draft day). Also Sabre fans not happy that they passed on him for Jack Quinn.
He was never a good skater even prior to getting Covid and the complications he's had. He is just not a quick twitch athlete... and being 5'9" that makes it really tough succeed at center. If he was 6' or 6'2"... he'd be a phenomenal player.

Id rather not wait for the 2024 first to contribute or bust in 4 years when we need help now though.
I agree... the Laughton/Henrique/Monahan types just don't really move the needle. Spend the pick on someone who does.

It really depends on the fit. Out of those 3, laughton is the best fit cap wise and age wise.

But yes, for sure id rather use the assets on a legit 2C. I wonder if claude giroux is up for another rental run.

Edit: I just looked at his stats and it's not that bad TBH. 13G 14A 27 PTS in 46 games on a bad team. Much better than Jost.
Rossi is a damn good player but yeah I don't see a franchise center there. Certainly hope he has a long NHL career regardless, his bout with Covid was really bad.

As for Sabres fans I imagine they're shutting up now. Quinn is a fantastic young player and should be a great two-way winger for them going forward. They really need to change that coach out.

He's probably the best fit of the group... but playing Laughton and Colton is basically the same as playin Compher and Eller. They might be slightly better... but it doesn't move the needle as a middle 6 center group. Lindhom would though.

Hate to say it but in his recent interview, when he was asked about balancing the present and the future, it almost made one wonder if that was a planted question so CM could keep the fanbases expectations low.

Someone made a good point that it might just be a poker face too though.

Zegras, assuming he's health post-deadline, is my pipe dream. Beyond that I'd like to see if Seattle is even remotely interested in dealing Gourde (I bet they aren't), then Lindholm obviously, maybe Henrique but at that point I just think they're settling for table scraps.

Scott Laughton IMO is a good player and an even better human being (dirty cross check on MacKinnon a year or so ago aside) but IMO he's not the answer. And no way is Philly even thinking about getting rid of him.

Only player I could see him being moved for is if Minny wants to move JEE, which I doubt they do.
That 5.250M contract is fantastic, and perfect for what we would need for a 2C.

They'd be MORONS to move that deal, unless they were blowing it up (which we know they'll never do). Even if they went into a full rebuild I think that should be the last contract they deal out.

Oh, I see this thread is about Ritchie. Hope he continues to play well and increase his trade value come deadline!!!!

Found nothing on his wiki page. Say it!

Good Lord either you're a goddamn Luddite or you're the laziest person alive. Try again. Maybe this time use Google like every other Internet-using human on the planet. I did just now to see if anything would pop up and sure enough...

Is it the Pride tape thing? lol

Holy shit I was looking for a story of him saving a baby or something.

Again, really lazy on your part. He's done far more than just tape his stick with pretty colors but you're finally on the right track.

This is overly harsh to Rossi... but he suffers from the same faults as Jost. Small and not a good enough skater. There is more raw talent and I think he's quite a smart hockey player.. but not enough to overcome his deficits.

If you can get Zegras, he could solve that issue. It'll be warty until his defense comes around, but Bednar has shown he can handle that (Landy and MacK in the early years). If you get Fatty, he has all the requisite skills and ability now, you just have to deal with a contract later. Lindholm solves it for the year for sure... after is a large question with the contract he'd require and his regression. The Monahan, Henrique, Wennberg, etc group are just putting a bandaid on an arterial laceration.

Personally, I'd rather overpay and 'lose' a trade to get a 3-5 year solution like Zegras/Mitts.

Is Zegras a true center? I always saw him as more of a winger.

And then next year everyone would be talking about how the Avs helped the Wild rebuild like people are saying the Kings gave the Jets new life. There's a reason you don't make big trades in division.
Yeah, no, because one guy is PLD who is literally Ryan Johansen 2.0, while the other guy is JEE who is one of the harder working players in hockey.

Idgaf about in-division trades. If it makes your team better, make the trade. I would have made trades with the Red Wings in the 90s if it made the Avs better.

Yes! Make the trade to improve the team, full stop. With the position the Avs are in, get better today and worry about this year first and the next two years. If the trade ends up like ROR/Thompson in 5 years... that's even completely fine by me.
