Islanders won this trade already. Relieved as a Jets fan because I didn't want us to trade for Nelson.
I am predicting Brock Nelson is going to be the biggest disappointment amongst trades go at the deadline.
Like I said Avs brethren, he's closer to Mittelstadt than Lehkonen and that will not cut it in the playoffs. My only gripe with him is that he has the tendency to float and disengage—
Nonsense. Short international tournaments are the best barometer. That’s why after the 2010 Olympics Toews went on to have a much better career than CrosbyThe best player in the world looked like trash at that tournament, while the top American scorer got healthy scratched for the final game.
I wouldn't ever use that tournament as a barometer.
Very talented centre who has the projection to be a #2 centre in the NHL. Very offensively gifted and has high IQ and passing ability. He can dish it and shoot it, but he tends to pass the puck a lot like Alex Tanguay. I don't think he will ever fix that, but he is an all-around offensive force. Defensively, he was horrible and why he was sent down. He will never be a strong defensive player, but a lot of his mistakes will be teachable. Can you tell me about Ritchie?
Between Necas MacK and Nelson entire portions of the Avs top 6 will disappear during the right checking of the Winnipeg Jets.Just stopping by to give some input on Brock, though I imagine most of you are familiar. He’s on the decline, with that said he’s still quietly mobile, with savvy hands. His bread and butter is his wrist shot. Give him a clean look and he’s usually money. Peak Brock was quicker (both hands and skating); but again he’s only marginally declined.
My only gripe with him is that he has the tendency to float and disengage—this has been a long standing issue. He also shies away from contact. His fluid skating, accurate shot, and offensive IQ will fit nicely with the Avs behind that loaded top line.
I was rooting for the Avs before this trade, and well, that obviously hasn’t changed.
Can you tell me about Ritchie?
Thanks.

Just saw it's a 2028 3rd lol
f*** them picks!
Ritchie is supremely talented, has great vision and is a big body who likely adds a bit more weight/muscle as he grows older but it doesn't mean he plays physical.Just stopping by to give some input on Brock, though I imagine most of you are familiar. I am not against trading all the pieces we did, but not for somebody who floats like Nelson. He's not a very playoff-esque player IMO. He's not a piece that will turn the needle against the likes of Dallas or Vegas. That's my two cents, you are free to totally disagree with me.@S E P H and others that are disappointed in the trade - I'm not really sure what your issue is? Are you fans of this team? Don't you want to see them try to win the Cup?
No one is denying it's a high price. But every year is unique and it's clearly a sellers market. You can't compare deals year to year always. Just because it's a sellers market you can't afford to waste a year of Nate and Cale's prime, especially on Cale's and Necas' current deals. You make the trade to put your team in the best position to win and fill the hole. That's what was done.
I know it's Hockey's Future board but people are way too concerned about future assets. As others have mentioned we have players to trade to recoup some of those later on (Colton, Manson)
To paraphrase the Tampa GM: Better to regret something you did than something you didn't do.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM

That said, he does lack foot speed. A lot of our more prominent junior hockey watchers have observed that plays an eerily similar game to Dylan Strome, but not the Strome you currently see in Washington.
If he puts it all together, you've probably got your 2nd line center for the next decade.
Try to tell Nathan MacKinnon we "overpaid" by trading picks and prospects.
Put him with Lehkonen and Nuke and he can float right to where he can use that sweet wrist shotI am not against trading all the pieces we did, but not for somebody who floats like Nelson.
