The team is only going as far as Shestyorkin takes them. They’re not good enough overall right now to hang with the big boys when it counts if he’s not carrying them. (Stop me if you’ve heard that before)

That’s why I have no idea why Drury is in a hurry to lock up Strome and have this be the core to try and win.

Kreider missing that potential tying goal was also terrible, guarantee he’s going to go through a brutal cold streak after that hot start.

On the Mika stuff, idk what to say. He needs to be better, at think at some point it will come together for him. He’s def missing Buch, I don’t think the team properly estimated how much Buchnevich was the driver of that line. They traded away arguably the most important player on that line and just didn’t replace him...

It's not just this game it's every game with some people, not you. I just don't know what people are expecting. This board has always had it's share of whining and moronic hot takes but this year is the worst it has ever been and yet we have a good record all things considered.

I took a significant posting break from this place for a while because of the bolded. Ignore is our friend.

It's like people were expecting a round three playoff team but don't realize this team is a work in progress.

Well I put a couple of people on ignore that bitch about the team when they aren't playing great and are nowhere to be found when they win. I try (and often fail) to at least balance out my negativity with positive posts when they win. Some people it feels like are rooting against the team.

We haven't interacted much over the years, but you're one of the better ones here.

Wasn't able to see the game, but my work partner (who is a legit Nords/Avs fan from the 80's) will be in shortly. I wish I knew half of what he knows about the game - I'll get an honest recap of how the Rangers looked from him.

It was hardly a decisive win. Reaves landed the hardest punch, albeit not the most.
Many would disagree with you.

The last handful of games, the team has looked more like last year's version. No urgency, no speed, no precision. When the other team has the puck, we can't take it away, and when we have the puck, it looks like a game of hot potato. Nobody seems to be on the same page anymore. Not sure what's going on, but they need a bit of a wake up call.

Yeah ... My impression was the Avs wouldn't allow their typical passing game, and the blueshirts couldn't adapt & find another way to play.

I know it’s just a small cold streak, so why do I have this intense urge to break up Strome/Panarin and Zibanejad/Kreider.

Trade Strome immediately, his value decreases w/every day he loses term on his expiring contract.

Replace w/Barron.
Do what you can to acclerate Nemeth getting Nils more acclimated, then move Nemeth. Cheap.

Keep LaF - Chytil - Gauthier [remember where you got that]
that leaves coupla basic options.

It is not clear they can score enuf but
Kreider - Barron - Kakko
would be one super tough line to play vs

that leaves
Goodrow until Krav - Zib - Panarin

basically gotta get Barron + Kakko getting familiar NOW
then we have option on seeing where is better chemistry w/Kreider back w/Zib or as I laid out here

but Zib gotta get outta this funk

--------------
btw, I was open minded about Zib long term
or dealing him now
or overpaying short term 3-4 yrs w/limited ntc no nmc

majority of the board was, nah, only long term extension
you got what you wanted and there's a killer nmc attached

yet bern is the one who is consistently wrong ............................. not.

Didnt stay up for the 3rd but it was typical Rangers through the first 2 periods. Everyone wants to make a highlight reel pass, rather than just shooting. Zibanejad is actively hurting them right now. After Strome scored, he immediately comes down on a breakaway, misses on the backhand (stop me if youve heard that before) and immediately wraps his stick around Jack Johnson's neck for a penalty. Nice sequence for an alleged team leader. Time for him to take a look in the mirror, because this team is never winning anything with him playing this poorly, and they all know.

Nemeth is giving Hajek a run for his money this year. The fact that they are paired together for a contending team right now is borderline unacceptable. Time to call up Zac Jones.

And frankly, I would split up Strome and Panarin. It's great that they have chemistry. It's great that they are BFFs. But it's time to care more about their team than their bromance, and splitting them up could get other lines going.

Also, Kakko, Laf, Chytil, and Gaut need to start getting a minimum of 15 minutes per game. They need minutes to develop and right now, a slew of 4th liners are playing more per game. We're going nowhere now or in the future if we can't develop at least two of those four guys into difference makers. Either give them those minutes or send them to the AHL with a list of things to work on.

Kreider-Mika, Strome-Panarin, and maybe even Fox-Lindgren should be split up. Theres no need to panic with a 18-7-3 record, but it seems like the team has issues with getting complacent when they have success. I just dont love that the team chemistry is based on guys playing with their friends.

Also can Laf/Chytil/Kakko do something? Anything? Bueller? Everyone worried about the cap crunch coming, but those guys have done jack shit to get paid right now.

Exactly. Winning against the Avs when they are on a hot streak isn't an easy feat. Especially not when the refs also tilt the ice. Them getting the last change for favourable matchups is of course a big part of them shutting us down.

There's no patience with the team finding their way to play under Gallant, nor Zibanejad finding his game after he lost best buddy Buchnevich. I would (like some others also want) to see Panarin and Zibanejad on the same line for a while. Both need to get going more 5 on 5, but especially Mika. Kreider isn't exactly a passing wizard and Mika and Kakko can't find good chemistry.

Carolina are slumping more than us (5-5 in their last 10), NYR is still 7-3 in the last 10. I can't see how the sky is falling like it sounds like in here.

Didnt like the way they played but this is some needed perspective. Youd like to see them play better against some of the top teams in the league but when youve banked as many points as this team has, a 2 game losing streak (gasp!) isnt a big deal. I expect them to bounce back in a big way tonight against the Yotes

5 on 5 D Zone
While Georgiev looks light years better than he did earlier in the year, I think Shesty's puck playing game, and Rangers general confidence in Shesty allows them to play more aggressively. The team is very focused on staying grounded in the d zone with Geo in, which is good I guess, but they're also hesitant and are half a step behind because of it.

5 on 5 NZ
Due to d zone hesitancy, when they move the puck through the NZ they have no speed and too often end up trying to force pucks through 1 or 2 opponents. 50/50 pucks bouncing around in the center ice area often end up going back the other way because of our guys' weak momentum and reaching with sticks, leaving our D out to dry and easy break ins for opponents to our d zone.

Panarin must stop forcing contested back hand passes long range through the NZ and while breaking in high in the O zone. Teams are waiting for it.

5 on 5 O zone
Our puck support in the O zone is weak still, but was definitely better last night with a stronger emphasis on forechecking, however whenever we do cause an O zone turnover (easiest way to score, especially for a struggling offensive team like us now) through our forcheck, the puck seems to end up in our guys skates making quick plays difficult and the puck is just turned back over.

Powerplay
PP1 needs to start ripping shots and going for tips and rebounds. Rotate the players around so they get lost in the coverage, let Zbad end up back on his off wing half boards and start ripping one timers from 15-20 feet out (not freakin 30 feet away which of course is stopped and causes him to mope and lose confidence). The seams are clogged and that will help open them up. Strome seems to be the only guy willing to shoot from the circle and he's the 4th best shooter on the PP.

CK missed a few golden PP chances right in front, puck was a bit tight towards his skates and he couldn't lift it over the pads.

Sorry that so many are apparently realizing they weren't promised the Cup this year. Yes, they will still loose to certain teams. Yes they can beat the weaker teams most of the time. Yes they rely on Igor to win lots of games. You play the whole schedule. They'll win lots of games. They may finish in a spot that avoids one of the best teams for a round or two. Many things still need to play out over this season before major moves can be made. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Oh, and one more thing....

MIKA, wake the f*** UP!

We're still tied for 5th on the league table. All the other teams around us have been sputtering as well. Toronto is on top but has played more games than anyone else. Cats got mauled by the Sens. Canes got mauled by Covid.

There's no problem here. Hard stop.

So, Georgiev looks back on track which is great on the surface. But, if he’s the type of player that can only be effective when he gets regular playing time, that’s not going to work on a team with a dominant number one like Shesty. We need a more mentally strong backup that’s comfortable playing once a week.

Again all these line combos blow because there's always a caveat somewhere...

Panarin needs Strome... Strome needs Panarin... Strome shouldn't be on the PP... Kakko needs the puck more... Laf needs better linemates and PP time... Chytil can't finish... Zbad will get going... we need Buch back or another RW... Kreider's gone cold... Gauthier/Goodrow/Hunt/Rooney are all 4th liners...

It never ends. Not saying some if not all are false mind you.

Bottom line... these guys aren't as good as people wanna make them out to be.

Stopped watching after the 1st. Same old song. Perimeter Peters... Finesse Franks.

Everyone wants to be Panarin and no one wants to attack. Looking for the cross ice pass but not one is skating to create the lanes.

Panarin sits on the half wall and waits for a lane but its not there.. So easy to defend and contain. Never a threat to shoot or attack. By far his biggest flaw.

I have never seen a team so committed to not shooting and forcing passes that aren't there

There's no problem...except Rangers get embarrassed by the better teams in this league routinely and have a losing record against them, are horrible 5v5, almost always outshot, have played maybe one sixty minute game this season, have one (barely) win in their last 4, and their most important young players are stagnating or regressing.

Yes, no problem.

What world do you live in? The vast majority of the points that have put them to "5th in the league table" have been from the bad teams in this league. Hate to break this to you, but those teams don't play in the playoffs.

What the f*** is this thread? Get a grip, this is not the Devils board. They’ve had five or so bad games in a row. It happens in an 82 game season but you take your points when you can to make the POs and that’s what this team is doing.

Chill out, it’s a long, long season.
