Holy cow. Who are those guys??

P.S. Avs trade deadline moves paying off handsomely..... Mittlestadt's pass to Walker for the tying goal. Plus

Avs 4th line was VERY strong. Can't complain about Georgiev in this one either.

The wonders of moving out a turd and a player who wanted another opportunity for a real 2C, 2 middle 6 forwards and a top 4 RHD

This surprisingly matches the eye test. I was gonna list who had bad games, but it's already here. Manson gets a pass for pummeling that useless plug of theirs

I really hate when we try to "out-fancy" teams like this. Just get the pucks on net, we have a ton of guys that can deflect and bank in rebounds in their sleep.

Anyway, happy I was able to watch this one, f*** the Coilers

Daaaaaaaaamn. That was a hockey game.

Can't complain about the goalie there. No sir.

Only Avs I was not happy with were Val and Colton. Nuke lost the puck battle that led to the first Oilers goal, and Colton is making a very bad habit of leaving the point man waaaaaaay too much room (reminds me a lot of LOC early in his Avs tenure). In fact, Colton was way too soft on the guy high in the zone a second time, allowing for him to get the puck down low and the Oilers 2nd goal. Nuke also seemed to get gassed way too quickly, which might just be a rust issue. FTR I didn't think either guy was flat-out horrible, just want to see better from both guys.

Anyway, give the Oilers credit, they sure play a pretty tight defensive game when they need to. Guys were hounded all night.

Overall I was quite happy with the effort, and obviously thrilled with Walker's game tonight. Also, Mittelstadt is everything and then some I could've hoped for. The comparison between him and the highest-paid member of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms is not like night and day, it's more like night and the heat death of the universe.

Lord have mercy the Oilers post-game thread is always a fantastic read after we beat them.

In a 3-2 game that went to OT and the literal last second, a game where both teams had 1 PP each Drouin penalty shot not withstanding because that was automatic, the fans STILL have the audacity to complain about "divealanche" and how the refs cost them this game.

There isn't a more pathetic fan base in hockey - Leafs fans included. Leafs fans get delusional about their team winning in the playoffs but when they lose, they turn on their players (lol). Oilers fans are convinced they shouldn't ever lose a game especially to the Avs because the refs are working with us to play them 9v5 every shift.

God I love beating this team to stick it to their pathetic fans.

The more I’ve read about him the more I’m confident we’ve got a core player here. He went from possible bust to guy that can be relied on in every situation through hard work and changing his own work habits. It’s pretty incredible
I've watched Mitts since his rookie season. He was never as intense of a skater and as hard a worker - esp on th back check - as he is now.

As a LT Sabres follower, Mitt's play under Bednar demonstrates (IMO) Granato's coaching deficiencies. Too nice a guy, too relaxed and unstructured of a system, players coach who doesn't hold his players sufficiently accountable.

What I like the most so far is the compete level. He just plays the game and doesn't quit on the play. I will be very happy if we have a MacK, Mitts 1C/2C situation for many years.

Great game, but we really need to work on our OT. I loved Georgiev tonight, but he needs to play the puck in OT, especially when Nate’s taking the faceoff.
That sequence where Rantanen threw a weak wrist shot after that long shift with Toews and Mittlestadt bothered me as well. All three had the chance to take it back and get some fresh legs on. Felt like we got really lucky once it got to OT

Honestly I thought Sammy was okay. That wasn't the eye test to me at all. Just bad luck (and as I mentioned before, shit coverage on the point by Colton) on that first Oilers goal. He actually had a few really good stops, one on McDavid of all people 1-on-1, and even on plays where he got walked a bit he still did okay keeping the guy (I think it was Draisaitl, who's given him fits in the past) mostly to the outside. I also thought Manson was freewheeling WAY too much tonight. The play that led to the 3-on-1 was just plain stupid. He carried it in and then fed it back up the slot to no one. Not to say Manson was horrid, I didn't think he was, but he was also a tad too aggressive for my tastes.

Didn't love the third line tonight, way too many turnovers and got caught in their own zone way too many times. IMO they were on a lot with the 2nd pair and that led to some of those extended shifts.

The ONLY thing that concerns me about Mittelstadt is his foot speed from stop/starts. There were a couple of shifts tonight where Ryan McLeod stop-turned on him and Mittelstadt gave him so much space because he couldn't keep up.

I don't think he's going to ever improve that, but like ROR I don't think he'll have to so long as he perfects his angles, positioning, and keeps using that insane hockey IQ.

Damn! Just finished watching the game. Was at a beer festival tonight so had to watch the game on delay. Hell of a game. Walker is legit. Tough decisions to be made this off season on D.

MacK doing special things but as always in hockey just play to the whistle. Can't recall the the number of fisticuffs I got into in hockey due to that growing up cause other players would just let up.

Just an overall super intense and exciting game. Excited about this bunch post deadline.

My first block class has a kid who is a diehard Oilers fan. He walks in every single day "Mr. Dahrouge I know you saw that Oilers win last night you closet Oilers fan Avs suck Oilers winning the cup." Literally every single day.

I can't wait for Monday. I might throw something at him honestly.
