and for the first half of the season, it actually looked like we might be going somewhere. But we're now looking like we might just squeak in.

And when one team is luckier later in the year than earlier in the year? Colorado had some shit luck at the start of the year. Dallas's horseshoes are loosening up a bit. But in terms of the absolute objective skill and power level of the game, do you think any of these teams have really changed much outside of injuries?

I know. But if the #1 team is 85% to not win the cup, and the best we can do is be low 90% to not win the cup, I'm not inclined to call it a wasted effort.

It's the best league on the planet full of the best hockey players on the planet. Parity is a thing. The gulf between 85% and 90% may not seem like much, but it's pretty huge really. GM's spend all their time trying to build 85% teams instead of 90% teams.

Avs look like a dog chasing a bologna sandwich and the Jets look like they are on round 3 at the buffet. What happened to playing with speed and transition?
Team confidence is extremely low.

People want to say the Jets don't care, are lazy, etc. but confidence might be the most under considered psychological aspect of hockey. The Jets look like they are over thinking and trying too hard instead of having confidence and belief in their skill, systems and each other.

The trick is for the coach to figure out how to help them get it back.

One thing I'd be saying is finish every check for the rest of the game. It allows the team to concentrate on something basic and hopefully let their skill and muscle memory take over.

Even if they lose this game, there still is opportunity here to take steps to turn this slump around

I know. Believe me, I'd like us to be as high as possible. I guess my point is, there seems to be a sentiment that we don't even have that 90% and that we're basically 100% and like.. no.. ESPECIALLY not before the trade deadline is settled at least.

As we've been over in our many debates, "I've never played the game" so of course I defer to your expertise in that regard; I know that when I struggled with poker play and my confidence is shot, the first thing I do is try and "get back to my ABCs". Study up on some fundamentals, review some common tournament spots, and next time I go play, look for small Ws, yeah? Rebuild that wall.

Well he's not sitting at his usual spot at the arena right now so maybe he's down their working the phones or yelling at the players.

When the TD comes and goes, and if Chevy does nothing significant? Then I'll be worried. But I absolutely want him to make something big. Schenn and Chycrun, if not Meier. Swing for the fences.
