If there's 30 pieces to something and we question 4 of those 30..does that mean the other 26 are fine. My point, let's notnworry about the few pieces that didn't go correct...the other 26 are the bigger issue. Better team..dominates habs 2 games in a row and then loses 3. If your as good as advertised..u wouldn't be going into ot 2 games in a row. Its not the coaching... gm...its odd when you should have enough to still not lose a 3 games to 1 lead. Talent wise...tor was clearly better...but can't put puck in net..and the guy who's supposed to be the best at it blows. Several things r an issue I suppose....its all 30 not the 4 only. No fred anderson...no babcock...young goalie stellar what 10 and 1 and lose to habs team that looked outclassed....but won 3 times. Never seen this before ..its getting worse...worsened was post game interviews by marner and matthews...matthews looked as unfit and uncomfie as tiger woods interview...pathetic.

This is a worrying trend I noticed toward the end of this season. It seemed like AM just want to score goals and then he Mail it in a bit.
I think he is letting Marner dictate how he plays.
Personally, I think he played his best when he was with Hyman and Brown or AJ and Kap. He probably won’t win the Rocket playing with them but he was a much better all around player when he needed to do more.
Hes a goal scorer..thats it....im really not liking him as much at stats show. It is what it is..it won't change. He never took over the game...ovechkin when on ice makes life miserable...hitting hustling...all over ice. Number 34 was a passenger out there not a pilot

It's also obvious if not already, that Keefe should have break up that line, move Marner down to drive his own line, and move Willy up to be another shooting threat...Keefe was incessant at the beginning of the series to let Matthews/Marner go up against Danault, and he didn't adapt even when it wasn't working...these players are human...in a 7 game series like this facing the same opponent, you simply cannot let things be the same when it is not working...players go through longer slumps in the regular season even, and it seems like Keefe was hoping and waiting for Matthews/Marner to break through and it just didn't happen...yes, Keefe tried Willy there for some brief shifts, but that wasn't enough...Keefe got outcoached by the Habs' interim coach Ducharme, it's disgraceful.

Maybe Keefe had the same thought, it worked after game 4. But Keefe also said the games got tougher and the Habs got better as the series went along...so why didn't he make more adjustments after that? He was clearly incessant on keeping Matthews and Marner together against Danault's line, hoping they would break through again in one of the games after game 4.

Playing Thornton on PP1 is coaching.
Keeping line #1 together the entire series no matter how shit they played is coaching.
Coaching wont win you games but they can definitely lose them

no it wouldn’t. The cap is down for 4 years. Auston can sign In 2. Teams will still be in the middle of the pandemic. Brodie and muzz and willy expire the same year.
IF Auston wants to sign.
1.) we have the money
2.) we can sign him 2 8 years
3.) we can give full SB
4.) we already have his cap space accounted for. How many big teams will have 13 million to play with?
5.) he will be close to being the all time leaf goal scoring leader. That would set him up for life. It would be nuts not to break that record before going.
probably 13.4 x8 is my guess. If we still suck he asks out 4 years in at 30

My impression of Auston Matthews has always been that he has that special, rare quality that the greatest athletes have that goes beyond pure talent. He always struck me as a guy that would refuse to be denied and has a knack for stepping up in the biggest moments.
The MTL series has shaken that belief somewhat, but not completely.

When you demand to be paid the 3rd highest aav on the shortest term of anyone in the top ~25, you need to be a difference maker.
If matthews was on an 8 year deal he would be making more than mcdavid which is completely ridiculous.
