This is still a free pass in my opinion.

Other players don't produce? It's their fault. Matthews doesn't produce? It's not him... it's still their fault.

No free passes.
I see him playing a hard game, playing defense for entire line which is why they have not given up a goal against, making great passes, winning faceoffs but he is not getting many chances at all .. his best pass received in 5 games was shot pass by Holl for his goal .. Mitch is skating around doing F*** ALL scared to go get a loose puck .. Zach you can see it in his face he is trying his best but he is going on 1 leg man .. he does not possess McJesus or MAC speed so he needs linemates man

Matty is battling with Hyman out there .. Mitch is a complete and total no show .. no fight no effort to compete for pucks .. it is like Zach and Matty are playing short handed

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but for me to use four quotes from the same page take a whole lot of arrogance/ignorance on behalf of the poster mentioned. 4 points in 5 games, superior PK abilities do not a 'total no show' make.

Finally some one else who sees what is going on .. Zach is nowhere near 100% and Mitch is ZERO help in playoffs .. put Foligno and Willy with him and we got 4-5 goals on Saturday night

"Zero", are you familiar with the meaning of the word? His points and his contributions to his line would suggest otherwise. Not to mention his PK efforts. Perhaps you would be so kind as to help us understand how Matthews is 4th in overall shots (does Marner not historically affect Matty's shot total?) yet is shooting but 4% v his 18.5% during the regular season. Might now Mitch be saying, ' heck dude, where are the goals?" Zach's production numbers are equally suspect, shooting at 6.??? v his 13+% during the regular season. 2 goals from them both to date. Is that Marner's fault?

Da definition of insanity is expecting a different result by doing same dumb things over and over .. 5 games is much too long for Keefer not to see what is going on -- Mitch is useless, Hyman is on 1 leg and Matty getting doubled .. best thing for Mitch from personal experience is someone on Habs to run his head into glass .. I have seen him go biserick twice and he will head to net with intent to injure and it created a goal as no one expected him to do it .. after goal someone groin shotted him getting up after goal he made a 2 handed head shot which you could not miss as whole arena heard da sound of stick on plastic .. no one got hurt as Mitch just not strong enough to do damage but point was made .. team mates came in to protect him afterwards when line brawl stick swinging happened in Montreal .. too bad kids now have these face shields as would have been better settled with a helmet off fight between 2 biggest guys on each team

If I hear a Mitch is useless quote one more time, I'll question whether the poster has any idea of what the word 'useless' means. If one is attempting to use the misquoted Einstein 'the definition of insanity is..." please explore the real view that Albert never uttered those words, as history has oft mistaken. Your personal experience is of no import, unless you can show how it relates to playoff hockey at the NHL level, otherwise it is balderdash. And to suggest 'run his head into the glass' is either a joke, or completely insensitive to what we all witnessed with JT and how horrifying head trauma can be. I look forward to your excuses.

This is pro hockey my friend .. when you got 1 linemate playing on 1 leg and 1 linemate playing pond hockey and not engaging in play it is d*mn hard to score man .. he is literally getting doubled every time in Habs end .. that is why he is passing so much .. and Zach and Mitch are not pure finishers and Habs know it my friend .. why do you think Zach and Mitch were so wide open??????????????? .. everything on that ice in pro hockey happens for a reason

I am not suggesting Mitch has been a superstar, I am suggesting that your use of pronouns makes your case impossible to understand. Pond hockey, really? In what universe? I assume Matthews is the fella you're saying is being double teamed, and yet he's 4th overall in shots on net during these playoffs. Are we supposed to blame Marner for Matthews scoring rate which has fallen from 18. 5% to 4% during these games? Matthews being immune to criticism? Zach's scoring rate have also dropped from 13+% to just above 6%, is this too Marner's fault?

Yes, things happen for a reason in the NHL, and more often than not, it's because things have a likelihood to f*ck up for a few games in this league. The game ain't a constant.

Mitch hasn't been a god, but he hasn't been invisible either. Cut him some slack, or bitch about his line mates as well, because the 3 of them are a unit and succeed as a unit.

He is playing like a scared chicken sh*t privedged baby .. softer then Scottie's .. circling away on every loose puck .. 1 accidental hit made because he had nowhere to go .. ZERO desire to help out his team mates .. there is ZERO fight in Mitch .. Paul got him his $$$ and he has checked out of playoffs .. next step he will get checked out of town .. we here in TO don't like p*ssies .. i don't care if you don't have da wheels to outskate anyone .. i don't care if you are significantly weaker than everyone else on ice .. but I care when you don't even try to help your buddies fight for pucks .. everyone on team can do it .. and EVERYONE has to pull harder

I am always upset to watch Mitch in scrums. He is always on the outside looking in and never grabs a partner, even if it is for posterity. When there is a goal celebration he pulls away and grimious' like a 12 year old about to be kissed by a little girl ha ha. He absolutely detests intimacy. Just watch goal celebrations, you'll get the picture.
Talented, no question about it. Peculiar, no question about it.

I keep seeing you post this ignorance. I also posted the following in the Marner thread but clearly it needs to be addressed here as well.

There is a reason Marner is usually the high man in the zone. He is F3 on the line. The Leafs don't want him down low battling for pucks. They want him moving around in a position to receive passes/collect loose pucks or to get in lanes for breakout attempts and also be the first man back for a rush going the other way. The only time they want him down low is if he has the puck on his stick or he is making a forechecking read with speed. Marner standing still battling behind the opposing net is not what they want.

I know this is probably hard for to believe but this is the game plan.

You are complaining about him doing exactly what he is supposed to do.

Here is an article for you about F3:

What Is an F3 Forward in Hockey?

The line is playing well out there. The results will come.

It's nice that he's still able to contribute without providing offense. Faceoffs, defense, board play, physicality etc. But he really needs that take the bull by the horns moment in his playoff career that you always see from the greats.

It was fine that he was doing those things in Game 3 and 4 enroute Leafs wins, but when you dial down the intensity and physical play, continue to not score and the Leafs end up losing, that's not a recipe a lot of people will enjoy. Matthews was dominant in Game 2, and Games 3 and 4 were a 24 hour back to back situation, so I wouldn't say he's "struggled" but it's time for more Game 2 production. Don't want to see that Game 5 garbage.

Yeah, he hasn't been bad, but spring time is where you seperate the Yzerman and Sakics from the Stamkos and Thorntons. I want him to put himself into the former category.

You are normally a very good poster but you are completely off the rails with your marner takes.

There's a reason keefe plays marner among the most in the league.

Also, matthews has been mostly invisible for the last 2 games. That's not on marner.

Mathews during the regular season could take over a game . I haven't seen that from him yet, I hope his ok health wise. He also doesn't have the same zip on his shot.

Matthews playoffs is at a 16 goal 65 point pace/82.

He should not be getting a free pass here.

He absolutely needs to step it up and has not been anywhere near good enough. I don't care for all of the excuses I'm reading in this thread.

Always someone else's fault with Matthews here.

Hyman makes every line go ....until AM slumps then he's useless
Marner is an elite playmaker.....until AM slumps then he's useless
Babs was an a-hole for playing him with Nylander instead of Marner
Keefe is an a-hole for playing him with Marner instead of Nylander

Always something

The whole line is sucking ass right now

I don't know if they have been physically beaten up but they all need to suck it up.
This is the playoffs

Mathews
Top goal scorer in the league

Marner
Top 4 point producer in the north Division

I don't care what they do in the regular season. The playoffs wins are what I want.

No more excuses

I want big changes if this team can't do it.

Janmark for Vegas 3 goals last night.

He can do it show me you can do it.

So a fella playing the most PK minutes on the team which has not given up a goal while PKing is playing "scared chicken sh*t"... I rest my case. But the "we here in TO don't like p*ssies" was a great line, floored me with it, you did, I'm still gasping at that gut punch of a line. I could go on about that line forever, it was that good. Wow, what a line.

Its amazing how little hate matthews is getting.

He's the 3rd highest paid player on the shortest term of anyone in the top ~25.

For that money, he needs to be a difference maker every game.

2020 game 5 vs columbus: no points
2019 game 7 vs boston: no points
2018 game 7 vs boston: no points

Seems like auston doesn't like to show up when the games matter the most.

Yet marner gets all the trash thrown at him lol

To be fair the last playoff goal Marner scored was for Babcock so he is way overdue. Montreal didn't shut him down during the regular season so are they playing him that differently or does he just have a case of cold hands?

I don't think you can target Matthews for not scoring in those particular games as the ones a team loses are usually the ones where their best scorers get shut down. All playoff games are important enough that you assume the guys are doing the same stuff every night. He has 25 shots in 5 games this year so doing what he is supposed to unless the quality of what he is taking is the reason, and that would be because the Habs are playing him differently. He has to be better and Keefe has to be better if Montreal is neutralizing the club's best offense.

Matthews is injured btw. Playing through it, and playing quite well.

He has dislocated both shoulders in the past.

, Montreal players are all over his upper body, twisting him like a pretzel, constantly, with no calls.

34 definitely isn't my favourite.

Talented guy but not the kind you'd want as a leader. Hyman taking 4 gloves to the face while he smiled like he was a kid getting an airplane ride from a parent is just yet another example.

Depending on how this series ends, with 3 years left to go before we have to entice him with another money truck... I'd be looking to see what the market would be willing to pay.

An excuse that doesn't hold weight.

I think Matthews actually is a better leader and team person than guys like McDavid, Draisaitl and Eichel who wear their frustration on their sleeves and seem to deflate their rooms with their bad body language and negativity.

That said, we need a Mackinnon level game from Auston tonight, nothing else really matters if he can't deliver in the big moments.

Matthews isn't capable of a Mackinnon level game, he might put up the points, but the intensity will never reach Mackinnon level which is what dominates games

I don't know. Gilmour wore his emotions, I think that was a good thing.

To me, Matthews' off ice conduct (attempting to get into a locked car in the middle of the night with a woman inside) as well as his stance on Kaepernick's protests.... I'm just not feeling the guy.

I know a lot of fans here love the thought of having a good goal scorer and cheering for Matthews is the thing to do... meh. If he were traded tomorrow... I would trust Dubas' judgement on the subject.

I think we have a Tavares situation on our hands. Just a feeling. I know need 34 fans trying to tell me why I'm wrong about an event that hasn't happened yet. Just a feeling I get. By no way am I saying it WILL happen.

However, if we do... I sure hope we sell high and get more than market value back.

The criticism for Matthews is actually the exact opposite. He's taking over games on the ice, but not producing much

I love that he's proud of his country and doesn't buy into this woke bullshit. And who would know better? He's a Mexican American from Arizona.
