Matty is battling with Hyman out there .. Mitch is a complete and total no show .. no fight no effort to compete for pucks .. it is like Zach and Matty are playing short handed
If Nylander is hot and Keefe is looking to give him more ice why not just give him looks with Matthews?
Finally some one else who sees what is going on .. Zach is nowhere near 100% and Mitch is ZERO help in playoffs .. put Foligno and Willy with him and we got 4-5 goals on Saturday nightYeah matthews wasnt there yesterday and now everyone thinks he has sucked all series. People forget he was our best player for the first two games by far and then was very solid in games 3/4 with no points.
Hyman is no where close to being ready or just is sucking right now. Marner is absolutely brutal. He is getting zero help right now. Matthews is constantly getting the puck out of our zone for hyman/marner to lose it at the blueline.
Put nylander with him and ride them 25 mins next game

In fairness, although the goals have temporarily dried up, maybe due to the constant pounding and really tight checking attention Matthews is getting, he is contributing as a leader and winner should - finishing his checks hard, being nasty standing his ground against pests, excellent backchecking efforts, and generally carrying himself with pride as he figures out this Montreal team. I don't get any whiff of weakness or resignation in his game at all. To me, Auston has come of age as an elite NHL'er.

Is it possible that his lack of playmaking gets magnified in the playoffs?
I disagree in that it hasn't been Matthews best hockey offensively, there's been chances he's needed to finish. But his physicality this series is a welcome sight. Finally some one else who sees what is going on .. No, his linemates being unable to finish is being magnified. Marner and Hyman have had tons of incredible chances and just one goal to show for itIs it possible that his lack of playmaking gets magnified in the playoffs?
Da definition of insanity is expecting a different result by doing same dumb things over and over .. 5 games is much too long for Keefer not to see what is going on -- Mitch is useless, Hyman is on 1 leg and Matty getting doubled .. best thing for Mitch from personal experience is someone on Habs to run his head into glass .. I have seen him go biserick twice and he will head to net with intent to injure and it created a goal as no one expected him to do it .. after goal someone groin shotted him getting up after goal he made a 2 handed head shot which you could not miss as whole arena heard da sound of stick on plastic .. no one got hurt as Mitch just not strong enough to do damage but point was made .. team mates came in to protect him afterwards when line brawl stick swinging happened in Montreal .. too bad kids now have these face shields as would have been better settled with a helmet off fight between 2 biggest guys on each teamI disagree in that it hasn't been Matthews best hockey offensively, there's been chances he's needed to finish. I do agree though that his linemates have been terrible. Mitch is getting knocked off the puck/boxed out all over the place and if he's not getting owned physically, he's making dumb turnovers.
This is pro hockey my friend .. when you got 1 linemate playing on 1 leg and 1 linemate playing pond hockey and not engaging in play it is d*mn hard to score man .. he is literally getting doubled every time in Habs end .. that is why he is passing so much .. and Zach and Mitch are not pure finishers and Habs know it my friend .. why do you think Zach and Mitch were so wide open??????????????? .. everything on that ice in pro hockey happens for a reasonMatthews playoffs is at a 16 goal 65 point pace/82.
He should not be getting a free pass here.
He absolutely needs to step it up and has not been anywhere near good enough. I don't care for all of the excuses I'm reading in this thread.
This is still a free pass in my opinion. This is pro hockey my friend .. when you got 1 linemate playing on 1 leg and 1 linemate playing pond hockey and not engaging in play it is d*mn hard to score man .. he is literally getting doubled every time in Habs end .. that is why he is passing so much .. and Zach and Mitch are not pure finishers and Habs know it my friend .. why do you think Zach and Mitch were so wide open??????????????? .. everything on that ice in pro hockey happens for a reason
Foligno will probably not play for the Leafs again wouldn't be surprised if he's in Columbus right now.
