That first goal against Vancouver was a real statement in the aftermath of that hyped up McDavid coast to coast goal against us. The second goal line chip seems to be something you can expect from him going forward, might be the third of the season where he's done that.
Since Matthews first goal was scored at the 2:56 mark of the 1st period, it was important to take an early lead and not let Vancouver score the first goal.

Also because he went around JT Miller did that make it easier for him since he was a Forward playing Defense? So if that was Quinn Hughes does Matthews still end up scoring on that play?

Him and Marner if they stick around probably end up 1 and 2.

Getting a cup or two would help the cause a lot for sure
When Matthews scored his 2nd goal Marner got him the puck with a no look pass.

Auston is the most lethal goal scorer in the league. Say what you will about demko having to have that first one, but don’t kid yourself, Auston has made many a goalie look stupid. He anticipates goalie movement better than anyone in the game IMO. He shot at a hole that was not even open at the point of release, knowing that the hole would open up. He’s scored that same in tight five hole goal so many times. Such a skilled player. So fun to watch

It's not even just even strength anymore.

Since Keefe took over and Matthews started getting legitimate top PP minutes, he's been the best goalscorer in the league period, both total (41) and per game (.72).

He's been at a 59gl pace ever since No-Minutes Madcock got ditched.

#1 in hockey.

If he wore any other jersey he'd be celebrated around the league as the next generation's Ovechkin. But they can't bring themselves to not have their panties in a bunch over the fact that he's a Leaf.

Would love to see your numbers behind that.

By my account Leafs have now played 58 games with Keefe. It was 57 before this last game against Canucks.

I looked through the numbers on nattystatty, check out these rates just on PP since he's come on board.

NHL All-Time Goals per Game Leaders

Matthews isn’t on this list because it’s for players with at least 200 goals. Does anyone know how to find a list for players with at least 100 goals or prorate Matthews current goal pace to 200 and see where he ranks on the list?

It was an off-speed shot too, similar to the Kucherov move where he lets the puck slide five hole. Demko thought he was going to rip it and Matthews caught him off guard.

I am, and always have been in love with Auston Matthews. We are so lucky.

How many years until we need to worry about re-signing him?!

We definitely are lucky to have him as a leaf, hopefully for most of his hockey career.

I still remember those years after Sundin left up until 2016 wondering when we’d get our elite number 1 center.

Matthews is such a joy to watch.

Matthews is a generational player. Just unreal! The guy is a goal scoring machine.
