Me too. I will say that Marner locks up because he cares TOO much...I can't see that in AM to be honest. Something broke in him after the 1st Boston series...Not sure what it was that broke...but it sure looks bad.

This is a very uniquely "Matthews" thing when comparing superstars regular season stats with playoff stats.

great players elevate their game. matthews' game sinks terribly low when it matters.

He still leads the team in goals in the last 26 playoff games.

Last 4 playoffs

Matthews 12 goals.
Nylander 11 goals
Tavares 7 goals
Marner 4 goals
Rielly 6 goals

26 games
(Tavares only has 20 games)

Matthews needs to put in some special playoff nights and lengthy runs to really build on his legacy.

Regressing from 60 to 40 to be better two ways, prepare for the playoffs in a year when NHL scoring is through the roof? Dealing with nagging injuries. Okay. We'll give you the benefit of the doubt. Now let's see you elevate to a new level.

if he does not elevate in this series, it will be Curtains for the leafs. he needs to be better

I think Matthews is content to get paid, put up really good regular season numbers and average playoff numbers. If he stays with the leafs he gets paid and remains comfortable, if he leaves he gets to choose his destination and remain comfortable. He's in a no lose situation.

If I was Matthews I'd do what he did with Kapanen and ask for a new winger. Marner's perimeter weak playoff style is a disgrace to this 6'4 230 pound beast who can crash the net and monster his way to goals. Marner is only effective off the rush like yarn cocks goal (in playoffs). Most of playoffs is tight.

Marner's game is xGf% padding but requires Matthews to make a perfect shot to score with collapsing opponents

Yea Nylander and Jarnkrok w Matthews would be better suited to Playoff hockey imo
