What an "NHL" thing to do, if they suspended potential 60 goal man Matthews for protecting himself against the actions of a defenseman whom the officiating failed to police in their outdoor showcase extravaganza? Maybe things wouldn't have boiled over if the officials had diffused pressure by calling penalties properly.

Has anyone been suspended for a cross check to the side of the neck when there is no injury?

I said only half jokingly last year that I'm not sure I would trade him straight up for McDavid. He has taken yet another step this year with his competitiveness and willingness to get it done, clearly a stronger leader.

Put the right pieces around some.players and a Cup is within reach.

All we are missing really is a #4 D and a goalie who can stay under 2.7 GAA and .915% and this team wins a cup. We are so close

Orr never really took him out. He took him down while he was falling
I mean and I loved Orr. The last leafs to have any balls

I think he gets fined plus a game.
 
He will get suspended. If someone did that to Matthews I’d want them to be suspended. 1 game maybe 2.

Austin Matthews should be captain and Tavares shouldn't be here this is obvious now. I like his competitiveness and his edge.

It’ll be gross injustice if Matthews misses games because of this when THAT only resulted in a fine, but it will be right in line with Parros’ other overly harsh decisions when it comes to Leafs players and first time offenders.

I’m not against Matthews getting something in general. I mean he whacked him hard and the neck is a dangerous spot. Intentional or not. He hit him in the neck.

But there have been 3 recently with no suspension

1.) chara. Right in the throat. Which is actually life threatening.

2.) debrusk multiple heavy cross checks and nails mayfield in the back of the head.

3.). Drouin. He has his guy on the ground. And smashes him twice and smashes his head off the ground.

How can they possibly suspend Matthews with this precedent. I mean I’m sure they will but it’s nuts

Remember, Chara got a 5K fine for this.

But Parros hates the Leafs, only suspension against a player that Bettman had to overturn for the ridiculousness of it. Pretty sure he's still upset about getting knocked out by Orr.

He just did.

But I do notice he's starting to get a bit of snarl lately, seemed to start right after he went mouth first into the crossbar. I've said previously when he was skating as fast as he could away from any confrontation that if he starts to get angry and stick up for himself, watch out. Nothing more dangerous than elite skill mixed with a "don't f--- with me" attitude.

It’ll never happen but MLSE should drop ticket prices in such a way that they make zero profit for the NHL until this bullshit is sorted. The game was barely over by 3 hours when the Department of Player “Safety” tweeted out that there would be a hearing for Matthews. I mean f*** what are we doing here? Blatant bias from officials, blatant bias from the head of “player safety” in every suspension, this is not a fair playing field. f*** any other teams fan who says otherwise, if the colours on the jersey weren’t blue and white it’d be obvious.
