Easy to forget but Matthews missed the first 3 games and wasn't himself when he returned sitting at 1G 1A heading into the Leafs 10th game this season.
Since the Leafs 10th game he leads the NHL in goals and points.

I don't remember exactly but I thought he spotted the field like a 9 goal head start before he even started scoring?

Matthews had 1 goal in his first 6 games, so if my Casio calculator/watch is correct, that's 42 in 48 since then or a 0.875 GpG rate.

Over 82 games, that would be 71 (rounded down).

It’s crazy too. You look at a game like last night and I’d say he quite easily could have had 5

It's funny how that disclaimer always need to be added to anything positive about Matthews or Marner like it's some type of new or relevant information.
If it isn’t drilled into our heads every hour then we obviously will forget it

:huh::huh:

It will all balance out by the end of their careers. Has there ever been a star player who's playoff numbers were not more or less the same as his regular season numbers by the end of his career? To me it just means someday (hopefully soon) the playoff numbers will be much greater, to bring that sample size back to the norm.

Thornton never once had a playoff run over a point per game.

What a photo

Non-Empty Net Points

1. Draisaitl 57gms, 73pts
1. Huberdeau 57gms, 73pts
3. Matthews 53gms, 72pts
4. McDavid 56gms, 71pts
5. Kaprizov 54gms, 69pts

Don't really need to count these non EN numbers because Matthews is in a prime position to catch up to and surpass all these guys in raw points.

Matthews' seemingly has gotten that "hat trick" monkey off his back this season .. He only had 1 in his first three seasons despite all of the goals (and 2-goal games) .. and then one each in the previous two seasons... but he has 3 this year .. doubling his career total

I remember him being way back and thinking no Rocket this year Matti. Wrong again. LOL
I posted in a thread back in October that he'll likely hit 40-45 this season due to his slow start/recovering from surgery. I didn't expect a monster season

Turns out he hit it in 52 games lol

We need a power winger to run with Matthews so if anyone takes liberties, well, they won't. There's no way a guy like Dahlin or Cozens can be allowed to cross check and hit the franchise in open ice.

I'm glad Matthews didn't hold back on that crosscheck though.

Probably going to get suspended 20 games or something like that, knowing the NHL DoPS. Just to make sure he doesn't hit 50g.

Matthews should have realized that he's going to get suspended and taken the opportunity to whack Dahlin's hideous face a few more times.

I keep mentioning it in the GDT but funnily we need a Brendan Shannahan style of player for the top six.

Yep, that would definitely be a welcomed addition.

Bunting has been doing his best to have Auston's back.

As for Matthews himself, I'm not sure if he'll ever not score again.

He's an absolute machine and scores every which way.

If he were to be given even a modicum of penalty kill time, he'd be a shoe-in for a Selke along with the Hart, Rocket and perhaps, Art Ross.

Maybe I watched too much Wendel Clark/Tie Domi/Gary Roberts/Darcy Tucker in my younger days but I just find it distasteful when your star players are on the receiving end of fake tough guy nonsense. Ideally we have a big intimidating sheriff that gives it back to Dahlin and Cozens twice as bad as they dished out.

Bunting did great, but he's a little fella.
