Only 44 points? Yikes.
At least we'd have the same number of shutouts that the Oilers did throughout the entire season last year.

I'm pretty sure I lived through full season 48 and 52 point seasons in the old Norris Division. The division was so bad that one of those years the Leafs actually made the playoffs lol (top 4 of 5 teams made it). That division was the worst in the NHL, the Adams Division was perfect, I loved watching those division rivalries more than the Leafs. Anyways, this is a Matthews thread so I digress but those memories/nightmares are part of many childhoods.

I'd say to Matthews "just be relentless on both sides of the puck and the results will come". He is having stellar season and the team results show this I don't understand silly expectations. If the team is losing and he is not on point, the complain. He is part of a winning group, at times a fortress on the defensive end.

Far better to be a dominant two-way player who wins multiple Cups than some guy with some nice stats who nobody cares about after you retire. This seems to be the teams focus, especially Matty. They all know that only one season matters, hell, even Samsonov said that in an interview and he is new here. All of this is just a dress rehersal.

He can score 25 goals in the season but scores the Cup winning goal and it could be his best season.

I actually wonder who made you a moderator sometimes. You're more like an instigator with the misleading/baiting posts.
All in all, being a Leaf fan is becoming worse and worse, and no, not because the draughts keep expanding. And maybe this happens for all teams. But fans not only become divided, some devolve into characters with a certain shtick. And they influence others to do the same, almost like a cultish following. Ever seen Toronto Baghead and his cult of followers on Twitter? Just horrible.

These people have decided that cheering against their team in hopes to prove a point is more enjoyable/important than actually being a fan of the team itself. It's just getting worse and worse. When I joined here in 2007, it felt like a nice tightknit community that wanted to discuss their favourite team and hockey in general.

Now, the internet in 2007 and in 2022 are different places. As well, the team is now 15 years deeper into Cup and rounds won draughts. So maybe this is just the world we live in and the team we follow. But what a difference. Posters in general just brought more to the table and that includes some who are still here now that were also here 15 years ago. It's just become arguing with characters instead of discussing actual hockey. I used to learn so much here. You still can in the prospects forum (until they get drafted, then it's my shiny toy is better than yours crap) or on the business forum. But now, most of this forum is just witnessing a bunch of trolls stir up crap and the fights that ensue. Sad times.

Matthew's ain't playing as good as he's capable of.

It's whatever for now, as long as he turns up towards the end of the season like he did last year

Auston currently on pace for 40 goals and 93 points.

Matthews is having a decent season, his compete level is the one area of his game that can grow the most. Matthews is too often floating around the ice as if he isnt interested.

With Matthews, it seems like you see different sides to his non-offensive game emerge at different times but it's not as consistently one thing as Marner been in the non-offensive categories.

Some nights he's very physical. Other nights we have questions about whether he'll stick up for himself when things get chippy. Some nights he's a beast on shot blocks and back checks and active sticks. Sometimes he's a faceoff monster. Other games they don't trust him as much. It's like he dabbles in a little Selke work here, tries the power game there, but you don't the same flavour every time, not necessarily even a dip in quality.

Draftkings current Rocket odds.

Auston currently running in 6th best odds.
Those are actually the best odds you'll ever get to put money on Matty. Amazing.

Goal scoring is historically very very prone to streakiness, from both sides . . . and Matthews has been going along at an "ordinary" 40 goal pace so far, but when hot can easily score 15 in 15 or whatever and completely change the leaderboard - as can others. Draisaitl and Robertson are the two guys to beat other than McJesus I think.

I was thinking the same thing that this might a good time to put some money on Auston as you said not likely to get any better odds than that on the 2 times Rocket winner.

Most likely not 100% or preventing further injury is my guess.

Oiler feast on the PP and I've never been convinced of their defense. I'm amazed they won two rounds last year.

Helped that McDavid activated Gretzky mode or they would’ve been eliminated in the 1st round

Where are our top paid players ranking in terms of advanced stats?

Im relatively new to looking at these kind of stats but last I checked Matthews is among the best in both season and playoffs. Am I wrong?

Was reading the main board. Apparently mcd "allowed" Matthews to win the hart/lindsay. After a thread was started asking the question if auston has allowed mcd to pull away this year. Apparently there is no rivalry as auston is multiple " tiers" below and a "tage thompson" like player.. The salt is unreal. The leafs having The best all around player is too much for hf...lol..

Typical trolling. Notice how those idiots require daily validation that McDavid is the greatest ever. Sad...

I'm waiting for their reaction when the golden boy finally packs up and leaves. Take him out of the equation, and the Oilers are a big, fat nothing - no depth, no defence, Campbell in net for five years, etc. The Oilers faithful better hope McDavid signs his retirement deal with them, or else they'll quickly return to being a lotto ball team.

One too many "draughts" I get it pal

the west is very weak compared to teh east.

I'm convinced that Auston doesn't care about the regular season anymore. Saving himself for when it matters most.
I genuinely think this is the case tbh.

Matthews' offensive generation hasn't really changed much. He just has an ES shooting percentage that is like half his career normal, and he's picking up points on an abnormally low percentage of goals that he's on the ice for at ES and on the PP. He's going to pop off at some point.
