Pretty good company

And that list is of people who achieved that during a completely different era when scoring was extremely high...maybe with the exception of Ovi, which is why I still think he's the greatest goal scorer to date, but I also think Auston will surpass him.

If it is easy, do you want to add Huberdeau to that? Curious how he sits there since for some odd reason he is being considered for the Hart.

Scoring vs. Top-8 Teams

Matthews: 14gms, 15gls, 23pts (82gms, 88gls, 135pts)
Draisaitl: 15gms, 8gls, 17pts (82gms, 44gls, 93pts)
Huberdeau: 16gms, 3gls, 18pts (82gms, 15gls, 92pts)
McDavid: 14gms, 5gls, 14pts (82gms, 29gls, 82pts)

Vs Bottom-8 Teams

Huberdeau: 21gms, 10gls, 39pts (82gms, 39gls, 152pts)
Draisaitl: 19gms, 16gls, 33pts (82gms, 69gls, 142pts)
McDavid: 19gms, 15gls, 31pts (82gms, 65gls, 134pts)
Matthews; 17gms, 13gls, 23pts (82gms, 63gls, 111pts)

Just interesting points (at least to me):

Auston got to 250 goals 9 games later than Selanne, but the path to get there for Teemu was unusual to say the least.

Selanne scored 76 in his first season (84 gp) versus Matthews 40 (82 gp), so Teemu had a 30 goal cushion after their respective first full seasons, but he really slowed down the next few years when he missed dozens of games (only played 96 NHL games over his 2nd and 3rd seasons combined) and didn't get another 50+ goal season until he went to Anaheim 5 seasons later.

Selanne only ever recorded three 50-goal seasons, and only one more than 52: That ridiculous rookie year. Like Matthews, he got to 250 in his sixth season.

Kurri didn't get his first 50-goal season until his 4th in the league, but after 52 in '83-'84 he exploded for 139 goals over the next 2 seasons in just 151 games.

Matthews; 17gms, 13gls, 23pts (82gms, 63gls, 111pts)

For reference this is the top and bottom 8 by pts percentage. I picked 8 because with 32 teams the league splits so nicely into quarters now.

So the current top 8:

COL .754
FLA .739
CAR .710
TOR .684
TBL .684
NYR .671
BOS .669
MIN .669

And the bottom 8

BUF .436
CHI .421
OTT .412
PHI .399
NJD .391
SEA .362
ARZ .355
MTL .355

He's going to have to take Marner out for a feast when he hits 60.

No doubt Matthews is an elite shooter, likely the best in the league, but Mitch has given some ridiculous dishes on so many of his goals.

Matthews doesn't have time for bottom feeders. He wants some competition.

I cannot thank the lotto balls enough for giving us Matthews. This man is the greatest player to ever wear the Leafs jersey and will hit 700-800 goals by the time he's done.

Cooper wasn't kidding when he said Matthews could hit 70 in a good season. I think he has 71 in his last 82 games

47 in 47. If he hits 50 at or before 50 games...that's the first time since Lemieux in 95-96.

I really expect him to score every game. He's just on another level. The chances he gets every night, if there is any year where the Leafs just suck and struggle to make the playoffs, he should just pull a Draisaitl/McDavid and abandon even worrying about the D and go for 50 in 50. He could probably do it while playing as good defensively as he does but if he just stopped thinking about D, he's getting it.

He is on another level. Playing both ends, even keeled and determined to get it done.

This team is on a mission not since I've seen since the early 2000s and tbey didn't have this talent (but boy did those teams have heart).
