Matty, like Freddy, is really a hot or cold kinda player. But he can switch on a dime whereas Freddy seems to stay hot for extended periods of time. I honestly can't understand how you can play a game on Sunday night vs Florida where we really needed that win and then come back with a complete dominating game like last night. It really blows my mind. It would be interesting to count the number of Florida type game played vs the number of game played like last night.

Pasta is in tough to stay ahead of Matthews in goals scored. Matthews is behind by 2 goals with a single game in hand. Close to a 60 goal pace now for us (59) pace ;)

Ovechkin is the greatest goalscorer of all time in my book. With context in mind, such as ice time and age, you could argue that Matthews is even better given that he's got a higher all-situations G/60.

He's the heir apparent at least. Absolutely amazing to get to see guys like him, Marner, and Tavares on this team at the same time.

Is that age adjusted? Matthews' career G/60 contains a proportionately higher ratio of his peak years than Ovechkin's career G/60 at age 34.

I think it was for the same amount of games played to start their careers. At this point in Ovechkin's career, he hadn't scored as much as Matthews. And he got started closer to his prime.

He most definitely is not.

Matthews is not inconsistent or streaky. He’s very consistent. The only reason some people think he isn’t is cuz they watch him every game and don’t watch other stars every game.

You people compare Matthews actual games to other stars highlight reels and then complain about his consistency :shakehead

This probably isn't a tracked stat (maybe it is) but it's insane how many clutch goals Matthews has had this season. He's had 3 when we were down 1 with like a minute left this year (Habs, Rangers, Jets). Our best player has shown up when we need him most
The unfortunate thing about those games when Matthews had the tying goal is that the Leafs went onto to lose those games in overtime or the shootout.

Plus in that game against the Jets let's not forget Matthews scored in the shootout and had Andersen stopped the next shooter, the Leafs would have won and he gets credit for the game winning goal.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a site with that Stat (Points/Goals in 1 goal deficet, NOT in last minute of the game). I can't seem to find the resource for the life of me, though.
