So far this season Matthews is 1/4 in the shootout which is always a crap shot for any player in that situation. Also in his career he's 7/14.Strange how one of the leagues best goal scorers can be so bad at shootouts. On the same note, not so good players are sometimes deadly at the shootout. I guess it's just a different set of skills involved.
Never post a thread on the mainboards involving a leaf topic. They can't handle leafs + positivity so they will all be salty in some form. If the leafs ever win the cup there will be posters who say they didn't deserve it, they were the worst team to ever win it or the league rigged it, rather than actually have to pay a compliment. Would love to see them meltdown over a Cup win.On the main boards I created that poll asking between Matthews and Pastrnak who has the best chance of winning the Rocket Richard Trophy. Now some Bruins fans didn't mind that last night Pastrnak passed up an empty net goal and one said how he's a better teammate since Matthews is making a lot more money.![]()
Matthews is 33% on his career, which is the same as Sakic, essentially the same as Malkin, higher than Kucherov, Ovechkin, Stamkos, etc.Strange how one of the leagues best goal scorers can be so bad at shootouts.
Can anyone remember Matthews ever giving a hit like this against another player?
I also noticed how Murphy tried to hit him and at least Matthews fought back with the hit he gave instead, since others seem to say how any of the players never try to fight back when being pushed around physically.he dropped Webber last year. But not like that.
22 year old who is learning to be physical.
back to back injury plagued seasons made him more cautious but now he is coming into his own
As Matthews learns to use his size and strength to win battles and make space for himself that is yet another thing that he will do exceptionally well.
In the next year or two he will add 5-10 goals a year where he muscles someone then gets an opportunity and pots it.
kid has potential.
That's something he already did exceptionally well in his first few seasons.
I hope to see Matthews score at least 50 goals and if he wins the Rocket Richard that's an extra bonus.probably going to hit 40 goals in February. pretty crazy.
for decades, we only used to dream about having players this good.
Matthews seemed to use his stick and body positioning more in his first few years. On occasion he's shown flashes of throwing the weight around and when he does he'll be terrifying. At the very least he'll also have the option of bulldozing through as opposed to finessing, which would give him even more weapons.

Just a matter of time before Matthews owns this record.
Does he do it this season?
Matthews has a legit chance at it if you look at his current pace. So I guess the question is how much did him not scoring a goal in their past two games effect that?Leafs great Vaive sees 50 in Matthews' sights, if not beating his record 54 goals | The Telegram
