I’ll tell ya what type of captain he isn’t, matthews would never try and play every meaningless regular season game to get 70 goals then miss half the first rd because of sickness, he would always put the team before himself and rest :)
I am not trying to dismiss your point about where you think pro athletes are in todays world but you certainly dont seem to appreciate what it takes to get there and be one of the best.

Why should any pro athlete put the team first? The second you can't help them they will discard you.

Do you realise how much sacrifice and dedication it takes to make it?

I have had the honour of being a coach to 7 young men who have made it to the pro level. The same characteristic rings true with all of them. They work harder than everyone else. They sacrifice more than everyone else.

Whether or not they had a good role model is out of their control. When you see pro abillity at a young age you atart getting praised, people look past your shortcomings and you lose touch with reality. Unleas you have parents that can keep you grounded it's amazing any pro actually acts like a pro.

Matthews should try harder for you as a fan? Who queations his motives and circulates bullshit narratives online about his commitment?

Trust me. Everyone on the Leafs wants to win and wants to be the best. It's what their entire life has been about

Because it's the common sense, no brainer thing to do. I will be willing to bet that this is the same injury he was dealing with last year ìn the playoffs.
You bolded the wrong part of the post to reply to.

Anyways I'm not against giving up Cowan and Minten prospects at this juncture, but it would feel like more of a hail mary deep pass than a well thought out strategy - a lot of faith in Tre and Co.

The opportunity is there, but from the outside looking in, we're not really in a Tampa/Vegas position to execute a Matty cap circumvention workaround with sound judgment. We might be better positioned to set up a window than go for broke.

Nevertheless, it's an opportunity to consider.

Just for bantering sake... Why not? Could save us some space on the cap to really make a run at the deadline?

Helps the guy get healthy - send him on a trip to somewhere nice, let him fully heal mentally and physically.

Huge boost in the playoffs... Could be the final hurrah for the Marner, Tavares, Matthews Era - Could go out with a bang?

Prevents future injury? Maybe this is the rest he needs... He has been playing at an abnormal pace and given us almost a decade of playoff appearances since his draft.

If someone told me in 2010 that in the near future the Leafs would have one of the best scorers in the League and make the playoffs almost 10 years in a row Id be pretty happy. I just hope this kid gets over whatever is ailing him because we need him.

Why would anyone sign up for that?
We don’t even know what his injury is.

I was listening to Kris Versteeg who swears Matthew’s suffered a new injury with the Buffalo cross check, and that it was a very dirty play.
If that is the case why are we talking about sitting him?

Leafs are not a good team on the ice or to watch without Matthew’s.

We don't know what's wrong with him... whether he's suffered a bunch of separate injuries since last April, playoffs, training camp and November and Christmas or just one unresolved problem requiring surgery and a lengthy rehab.

rest AM until he's 100%. just do not rush him back. holy f*** we have terrible luck with injuries...
Stolarz is a tough one too, he covered alot of our mistakes and was just flat out awesome.
we're in a good position though so I think we'll be ok.

also, I think we need to make a trade and asap, give the depth a boost. anything to replace holmberg and my kampf... I wouldn't wait until the deadline, I would make a trade now.

Check their record with and without him, then tell us that again.

They should load manage him rest of season yes. Not much left to prove for him reg season.

Goes for anyone really. Tanev, etc. Player health should be prioritized.
