PPG over the last three years... Tkachuk is similar (1.06, Marner is 1.04), way ahead of Barkov (.81).

Not sure it is his fault he was a 1C on a team playing defensively good teams during the start of his career.

Eerily similar right down to both of them having a down year at age 25. Matthews could pull ahead as Ovi had another slow year by his standards at age 26.

Although obviously Ovi went right back to torching the league after that so Matthews keeping up into his 30s will be the real test.

I don’t think anyone can hope for the same type of production into his 30’s that Ovechkin has shown, that’s just not normal.

However, no one has paced like this at the beginning of their careers to keep pace with young Ovechkin. And that’s it’s own incredible feat.

Very happy to have Matthews in a Maple Leaf for years to come. Way more than I’d want Stutzle
